How many places have a queue at 9:50pm on a Tuesday night? Not many - but Mamasita is one of them! This place is a bit hard to find - its not heavily signposted like some others, but the crowd still manages to find it. As I was flying solo for a late night snack I was more than happy to sit at the bar - even though I was given a choice.
These little treats looked good on paper, and they were recommended by my very helpful waiter/bartender so I went with the local knowledge. The tacos here are made with a six inch soft shell tortilla with filling - not the crunchy ones. I chose two - the de Berenjena is eggplant, zucchini, crispy quinoa & guacamole for only $5.00 and the de Camarones which was marinated prawns, red chilli and chipotle almond salsa for $7.00. Both were delicious.
I wasn't planning to have dessert but when perusing the menu I had spied this morsel - helado de maíz (v)* -which was a sweetcorn icecream cone with caramel and popcorn (and it can also be gluten free on request). For $6.00 it seemed a perfect way to end the meal - and it was too! The cone was nice and crisp, the icecream tasty and the caramel and popcorn on top gave it an almost salted caramel flavour.
This place is also a busy bar with a good range of wines and cocktails. I went with a 2010 Jed Malbec from Mendoza in Argentina. It was $10 a glass and ended up being very nice. It was a lottery as I hadn't tried this before but chances sometimes need to be taken!

The service here is excellent. Its attentive and helpful without being overbearing. The other thing that's very noticeable is that the people there really seem to enjoy being there. People notice these things.
Mamasita is a very busy place. You cant book and you will probably have to queue - but its a great venue for a meal and a drink with good atmosphere and excellent service.
