Hardware Lane on a pleasant evening is often hard to beat. Max is one of the larger places there sprawling out along the laneway with eager waiters ready to pounce on you and entice you to stay and dine. As the sun sets everything under the awning has a gentle yellow glow to it (see photo's below).

We started with herb bread as it was one of the "sweeteners" that was offered to us to get us in (along with two glasses of wine). The bread arrived quickly and was hot and tasty although fairly small in size - so we were off to a solid start. This would normally have cost $6.50 - possibly not the greatest value.

One of our main courses was Rigatoni Salmon - which turned out to be quite good. The rigatoni was al dente and there was an overload of salmon - more than you would usually expect! The white wine sauce was solid too - and had capers in it to give it a bit of kick. At only $19.50 it was good value.

The other main course was Cajun Chicken Salad which consisted of grilled chicken, mixed lettuce, cucumber, tomato, avocado, semi dried tomato, cashews and sliced black olives. The chicken was tender and the salad was fresh, crispy and a good combination. The dressing was tangy but not overpowering. At $17.50 this was again good value.

Max is in a great location and is good value for a solid meal. On a nice night its a nice place to be!
