The Winery
Crown St
Surry Hills
The Winery is popular - so its busy. If you're going its best to book first - we did but the people in front of us hadn't and were told they would have to wait 45 minutes for a table.
Its a very pretty place - a bit Cinderella-ish with lots of subdued lighting and cosy nooks. At first it just seemed dark but our eyes adjusted and it was pleasant.
The first main ordered was ‘Steak frites’ - grilled sirloin, cafe de Paris butter and hand cut fries. It was a decent sized serving and the steak was cooked perfectly. The butter was delicious and the chips were really nice - it was a good solid meal for a reasonable price of $29.50.
The second main course was pumpkin, ricotta & sage ravioli with pine nuts, burnt butter with confit cherry tomatoes. It was delicious with the combinations of flavours working well - the only minor thing is that there could have been a bit more of it. It cost $24.
There are a lots of wines available by the glass - we had a lovely French red for only $12.50 a glass - nice stuff.
We enjoyed The Winery. The food was good, the decor was great, the service was excellent and it was a pleasant evening.
