Mad Spuds
479 Crown St
Surry Hills
Mad Spuds is a skinny small cafe/eatery in the crowded food mecca of Crown St Surry Hills. As the name suggests they serve spuds - but they have plenty of other goodies too. I was passing by and dropped in for a quick breakfast but I passed on a morning spud (if they were available) and chose from the breakfast menu.
Mad Spuds has received heavy praise for its food and once you try it you can see that its justified. The excellent service and quirky decor', with a wall of Irish and potato influenced postcards, are also drawcards.

I have to confess that I love gruyere. So when I saw the bacon and gruyere toastie on the menu my breakfast selection became an easy choice. It was described on the menu as also having spinach and slow roasted tomato. The toastie was delicious. It looked and tasted great.
The side serving (or garnish) or crispy spud skins was a nice touch - and they were so good too! The toastie cost $10.00.
I also had a lovely coffee to accompany my breakfast. Mad Spuds use Double Roasters coffee and this cost $3.00.
