Brit & Chips
433 Rue McGill St
Montreal, Canada
Spying this place in Montreal brought back all those great memories of the fish and chips we’d consumed in London. The easiest solution to refreshing them was to simply drop in and give their food a go to see if it lived up to its name. To save you waiting for the verdict - it did!
Of course the order was for fish and chips. They have a variety of fish choices - cod, haddock, salmon, sole, hake to name a few. It seemed appropriate to go for cod on this occasion. Two massive pieces of fish arrived in newspaper. The batter was beautifully crisp and the fish inside was tender and juicy. The serving of hot chips went nicely too.
After all this it would have been indulgent to also have dessert. Nonetheless, it was time to be indulgent. The menu said there was a battered and fried chocolate. the actual chocolate varied from day to day but the current version available was two Cadbury Crème Eggs. Well try to hold me back! These are a favourite so it was easy to say “yes please”. They arrived a short while later all hot and golden. Cutting in to the batter revealed the molten egg oozing out. A bit of the vanilla ice cream that came with it went perfectly. This was a great dessert. Rich for sure but sooo good.
They also had English beers there too. It really was like being in London - well very similar at least. The nearby accents were a bit different to London but the mood and feel was spot on.
Brit and Chips was an English oasis in Montreal. It was a great find and would help the homesick English ex-pats as well as those wanting a taste of the UK. The food is great too and don’t forget to leave a bit of space for dessert. Even if you don’t have space, order it anyway!
