1. Union Hotel - 70 Waymouth Street Adelaide - They have great pizza specials here in the main bar. The price goes up as the week goes on. On Tuesday they are $6.00 each, Wednesday $8.00 each, Thursday $10.00 each and Friday $12.00 each. There are some interesting varieties here too and they are a decent size. The specials are popular and getting tables in the bar area is hard sometimes. Remember that the specials are for the bar area - not the dining room or take-away. Anyway, we went here with a group for a pre-dinner drink and then decided to order a few pizzas as our entree as the plan was to move on somewhere else for our main meals. We ended up enjoying the pizzas there so much that we stayed and ordered more as our main course. Good pizza, great value, friendly service, pleasant place.
2. Apothecary 1878 - 118 Hindley Street Adelaide - I have to confess that I haven't had a full meal here. I called in here on a long night out with friends after a great meal. We decided to have a night cap here - which consisted of a bottle of very good red - as they have some lovely wines on offer here. While there we also decided to order some cheese to go with it. Its a quaint place that was - as the name suggests - a former chemist shop. It has a nice feel to it and its well worth a visit. Prices aren't cheap but for a special occasion it's certainly worth it.
3. Public - 12 Franklin St Adelaide - Fairly big cafe that does a busy business trade for breakfasts, lunch and of course a never ending stream of people buying coffee. I raced in one morning to grab a take away coffee. It arrived quickly and it was a good coffee too. So much so that I grabbed another later the same day. No time for food this visit but next time......
4. Mandoo Korean Dumplings - Now this place serves great dumplings! Thuis isn't news to a lot of people in Adelaide, but if you're new to dumplings (or new to Adelaide) this is a must try venue. It's tucked away a bit so you need to hunt to find it - but make the effort and you'll be rewarded. I had four of the chicken steamed mandoo and four of the pork fried mandoo. They came with a small dolop of mashed potato, a serving of salad with mayonnaise and a side of sauce. This was all completely delicious! I'll be back.
