Lid & Jar is a very deceptive place. From its long street frontage on Victoria Avenue it looks like it simply serves take away coffee - and it actually does from there.
However, venture up the internal stairs and you'll enter their rear room and seating that opens onto the expansive grass area of The Concourse. It turns out to be a much bigger place as a result. In fact it really is almost back to front as the main area is the rear space.
It's popular too - particularly on a weekend afternoon with tired coffee hungry shoppers.
Coffee is so important when shopping - at least to us it is! Sir was out with "the boys" in Chatswood and they all needed coffee (or hot chocolate in one case - yes you know who you are) to maintain the rage! So, the verdict on this so important drink - thumbs up. They were certainly good and no-one was complaining!
Of course it's always important to keep your energy levels up while you're on the go - which means eating something. As it was snack time everyone decided to stick to something smallish though. There's a display of goodies under glass at the counter with quite a range of sweet treats on offer. The cinnamon cronuts seemed to catch the eyes of most of the group - with three of the four ordering the same thing! Originality was overruled by the cinnamon cronuts appeal! The one variation was for toasted banana bread. All the food turned out to be good though. The cronuts were light, flaky and fluffy. The banana bread was thick, hearty and satisfying.
Lid & Jar offers a lot more than just a decent cup of coffee.They're open for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week as well as dinner from Thursday to Saturday.
It's certainly a pleasant surrounding there too - looking out over the grassy courtyard that sits in the middle of The Concourse. We're not really sure what their "main meals" are like as we only grabbed snacks this time, but it seems popular which is always a good sign.
