CHARLOTTE CAFE - BIRCHGROVE, SYDNEY

Charlotte Cafe
127 Rowntree St
Birchgrove, Sydney

Set in a quiet street hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the world, a jewel in the crown of Rowntree & Camerons St's is Charlotte Cafe. A renovated terrace in Birchgrove frequented by locals, business people, backpackers, workers after a sumptuous tasty takeout, families and mothers groups. Kids are very welcome at Charlotte Café, they even have their own menu and activities.

Charlotte Café was the concept of Jason Ghebar in 2008 and since then has grown to 3 Charlotte's Little Sister Cafes  and 1 Baby Charlotte café throughout Sydney. Its no wonder. Its known for is exquisite Campos coffee, its great Aussie fare and Mediterranean inspired food. The food is healthy, delicious and quite conservative in price.

Charlotte Café is bright and sunny and has tables on the sidewalk so you can bask in the warm sunshine or dine inside where the Café is warm and friendly with the most accommodating and lovely staff I have had the pleasure to encounter.  Alex and Peachy have been with Charlotte Café since it opened in 2008, a total of 7 ½ years. Jason Ghebar is doing something right to keep such dedicated and hard working  staff and to keep churning out such outstanding  food.

Upon arrival we were met by Alex, who immediately made us feel welcome.

She delivered one of their famous coffees while we pondered over the fantastic menu.

The coffee was a work of art.

On top of the latte the words WELCOME came delicately laden across the froth. What a wonderful first impression. We knew then that we were in for a treat.

Charlotte Café has a super large specials board as well as a menu to choose from and also an all day breakfast. An extraordinary display in the glass counter was also full of rolls, wraps, fresh fruits, cakes and sweets all freshly prepared on the day.  What to choose? It was finally decided! We started with a grilled vegetable stack – this was comprised of pumpkin, red bell peppers, mushroom, haloumi, goat’s cheese and homemade pesto. Superb and Dame C’s favourite.

Next came Squid ink spaghetti, tiger prawns, chilli jam and Napoli sauce. This was delicious.

The prawns were large and there was an abundance of them.

Then we had a peri peri chicken wrap with so much salad it was peeking out of the ends.

Dame M thought we had better try the all day breakfast. We ordered the Charlotte Special. Baked eggs, spicy chorizo, beef and vegetables – we agreed, another winner. It was a very substantial meal which would last you the whole day

The meals are so substantial in size at Charlotte Café we could not possibly have fitted in dessert.

We finished our extremely super delicious lunch with a mixed juice each and left feeling sorry we did not have room to try the sweets display. Well, it only gives us good reason to go back. We left feeling like we had dined with friends and they had cooked especially for us. The day could not have been better. We had good weather, good friends, good food.  What a fantastic experience.

Dogs are welcome outside Charlotte Café. There are water bowls placed on the footpath for thirsty K9s.  Sooty and Rover rate Charlotte Café as the number 1 dog spot in Birchgrove for refreshments and dog friendliness. Stop for a break anytime between 6am and 4pm. 7 days a week.

Those Dames, who are doing reviews for Sir and Mlady Dine Out, dined as guests of Charlotte Cafe. Special thanks to the team there and to owner Jason Ghebar. Big thanks also to Rachel Cameron of The Society Group for arranging it.
