KELLY'S BAR AND GRILL - MIRANDA, SYDNEY

Kelly's Bar and Grill
Westfield Miranda
600 Kingsway Miranda, Sydney

Kelly's Bar and Grill is a huge venue which is very popular and is located at, or actually inside, Westfield Miranda in their growing and impressive restaurant precinct.

It is a MUST visit - not just on weekends but on weekdays too - and judging by the queues plenty of other people have already discovered this tasty place. Kelly's is an Australian Grill house that has adopted a unique African style of cooking.

They use Kelly's secret basting sauces and the Char-grill was specially imported from South Africa. Their menu has so much variety and so many combinations that there will be something for everyone.

We started with a serving of complimentary bread. This was a lovely knotted brioche, light in texture with a sweet finish. It arrived warm at the table and was so hard to stop eating!

Mlady loves ginger beer so decided to have this with her meal. Sir opted for a cocktail and had a delicious pineapple mojito - muddled lime, pineapple, mint and brown sugar, Bacardi gold topped with soda.

The first entrée we tried was the calamari. This was crumbed and fried and served with Kelly's tartare sauce. OMG the calamari was beautiful - soft and not at all rubbery. The tartare sauce was so good too. It was that good that Mlady kept it aside - to use as a dipping sauce for her chips with her main meal.

Another entrée we had was the Camembert cheese. This was lightly crumbed and fried and came with a serving of cranberry sauce. Seriously - how good was this!. The gooey cheese was amazing and  what about the cranberry sauce! Great combination. The cranberry gave it a sweet fruity flavour. This was such a great entrée - so more-ish - We both loved this!

The grilled King prawns were whole local king prawns, butterflied and grilled with garlic, paprika and lemon juice. The meat peeled out from the shells so easily and it was tender and juicy with that nice hint of a barbequey flavour. We received a bowl of hand wipes to use after eating the prawns which was a nice touch.

For a main Mlady had a beef burger - which was 250gm of prime grade beef. This came with lettuce, tomato, onion, beetroot and pickles and chips. You choose how you like your meat cooked too. Mlady could not wait to try this - it smelled and tasted delicious. The chips too were great with a sprinkling of paprika and it was lovely dipping them in the sauce provided.

Sir ordered the 200gm eye fillet - to be cooked medium rare. The eye fillet was TAS pasture fed and he chose a "combo" from the menu - pork ribs. He also chose Diane sauce. When this arrived - it was impressive and so tasty. It was beautifully cooked medium rare and extremely tender and it was clearly a great cut of meat cooked to perfection.

Sir also ordered a serving of the crunchy onions - and these were sooooo good. This was such a great way to to cook onions. They combined well with all our meals. A bowl was provided for the carcass (rib bones). Also a container of  tooth picks was provided after the meal. Nice touches again.

For dessert Mlady chose Coconut rough. This was an interesting variation on the childhood sweet we love - coconut sorbet with Kelly's famous chocolate. This was such a refreshing dessert with a great coconut taste and there were coconut bits too - nice. The chocolate sauce combined well with the sorbet. It lived up to it's name.

Sir chose the New York cheesecake which was house-made and served with vanilla ice-cream. This was a thick and rich baked cheesecake that had nice flavours and the drizzle of raspberry jam added a nice fruitiness.

To complete our meal Mlady had a Pedro Ximenez black sherry - "Vote for Pedro" - nice! Sir had the Barros Port from Douro in Portugal - a place we're soon to visit - which he equally enjoyed.

Kelly's Bar and Grill was impressive. They have such a great range of meals that there is something for everyone - and a few surprises there too! The servings are tasty and big - so bring your appetite.

Sir and Mlady dined as guests of Kelly's Bar and Grill. Special thank you to Darren - manager of Kelly's - for chatting with us about the place and to Belinda for looking after us. Special thanks to Claire McPherson of CPM Online Marketing for this invitation.
