Café Vite
781-785 Elizabeth St
Zetland, Sydney
Café Vite is the reborn Eden Café located in Elizabeth Street Zetland. Some modifications have now changed the site into a more inviting, laid-back and sophisticated establishment which boasts a welcoming sunny courtyard with shady grapevines overhead, or a multitude of inside seating locations at high benches and tables, intimate corners and sunny window spots.
We were greeted by the owner, Alex, whose passion for Italian food, wine and lifestyle was evident in the first few minutes of our conversation. Lunch was on the menu and it was an Italian affair! Classic ravioli, lasagne, risotto, carne and more! As well as all this, they also have burgers and salads which are sure to please.
After scanning the menu, we chose a pasta dish and some specials as well. Count N can’t go past ravioli with butter and sage sauce. Today the filling was spinach and ricotta. Made in house and so delicious, the generous ravioli pieces were a delight to eat with the fresh and creamy filling. A classic dish so perfectly prepared and presented.
Next up we shared a gnocchi and a veal dish, both from the specials board. The Gnocchi a la Norma was wonderful dish featuring the signature eggplant in tomato sauce. The house made gnocchi was so soft and pillowy – melt in the mouth sensational – and the sauce was thick and flavoursome with the eggplant texture perfectly on point!
Equally, the Scaloppine alla Pizziola did not disappoint. Thin and tender veal with a rich sauce of tomatoes, garlic, capers and olives. This was accompanied by a medley of grilled vegetables. Needless to say our plates were clean at the end! We also enjoyed a glass of Vermentino from Sardegna which is one of Count J’s favourites, and some locally made bread.
At the insistence of our host we enjoyed a show-stopping piece of Tiramisu. The Counts concur that this is one of the best ever tasted. Again, made in the Café Vite kitchen!
This was served with long blacks made with beans from Café Vite’s own in-house roaster. This place has it all!
Turning out exceptional food with high quality ingredients, combined with friendly and attentive service, Café Vite is not to be missed and offers great value. From December it will be open for dinner with an extended wine list and can now be enjoyed for breakfast and lunch 7am-3pm Monday to Saturday, and 8am-3pm on Sunday.
The Counts dined as guests of Cafe Vite and will be back for breakfast soon - and of course dinner later in the year. See you there \O|O/
