Firestone
35 George St
The Rocks, Sydney
Firestone is nestled within the busy markets area of the iconic Rocks area of Sydney. You can enjoy a delicious meal whilst watching the hustle and bustle of people going by. Firestone really is Location Location Location! There is both inside and outside dining with a lovely courtyard out the back for casual relaxed times or for events. Being such a lovely sunny evening with some shade outside – we opted for an outside seat.
Mlady had a lovely refreshing lemon lime and bitters which is a bit of a “go to” drink at the moment for her. Being quite partial to cider Sir opted for a Hills Apple cider. It was certainly nice sipping chilled drinks here in the evening sun!
With us both being lovers of seafood, we just had to try the salmon. It was actually cured salmon, melon, small leaves and spinach basil oil. The salmon had lovely delicate sweet flavours. All the combinations complimented each other really well. This certainly was a very flavoursome and colourful meal.
We then had Asian Greens - sautéed bok choi, green beans and broccolini in Asian sauce. We love our greens, especially Mlady, so no surprises that we chose this. It was a fresh and vibrant dish with the broccolini having a nice crunch. The wonderfully versatile pomegranate added colour and another dimension of crunch – a soft crunch.
The Wagyu Hot scotch fillet was so impressive! It had a real WOW factor! This is also a great sharing dish. The accompanying chimichurri sauce had a good kick to it. Another great thing about this dish is that you can cook the tasty wagyu to your preference as it comes partly cooked and on a hot stone. Sir likes his medium rare whereas Mlady likes hers cooked more. The meat was so tender and so delicious. Don’t forget to dip the chunks into the Chimichurri for another taste sensation! We both thoroughly enjoyed this spectacular dish.
Another wow factor dish was the Pane – prawns, calamari, scallops, mussels, salmon caviar, pasta and cream sauce in a round roll. Seriously, this is such a great looking and tasting dish with the pasta and seafood sitting inside the roll ready to be eaten. YUM! It was reminiscent of the old favourite cob loaf encasing a yummy dip (usually spinach). There was plenty of seafood in the roll! Make sure you break chunks of the roll off and dip it into the sauce which is around the roll – lovely! We really enjoyed this dish.
We did manage to fit in dessert and had the pavlova. It had berry compote, mascarpone, fruits, and coconut sorbet. This was a work of art and such a pretty dish. It was almost a shame to eat it as it was so pretty – but we did! The flora gave it a tasty elegance. It was a very scrumptious dessert that ended our incredible meal perfectly.
Firestone is a place that ticks all the boxes. It has so much charm and also great food and drinks as well.
Firestone has a great varied menu so there’s something for everyone. The meals are substantial and you won’t leave feeling hungry. Their food is flavoursome, fresh with great tasting combos and textures.
Sir and Mlady dined as guests of Firestone at The Rocks. Big Thank you to Alicia their manager, for taking time out from her busy schedule to chat and take care of us. Thank you also to Chef Kiwon for his wonderful creations. Thanks to Loa and Matte for looking after us as well.
