Frenchy's Cafe
1100 Middle Head Rd
Mosman, NSW
What an absolute delight this cafe is! Nestled into the Middle Head Parklands, and located in historic heritage club house, Frenchy's Cafe has everything going for it. Duke and Duchess visited on a beautiful Sunday morning. The weather was stunning, and the cafe was absolutely buzzing. Most of the seating is sheltered outdoors, which was perfect for catering to families, dogs, couples, and whoever else you can think of! Frenchy's is super flexible, which only adds to the easy, relaxed vibe.
Naturally, we kicked off our morning with a couple of lattes, which were beautifully poured and a great roast. We also had Frenchy's in-house pressed juices. Orange for Duke, watermelon, lime and raspberry for Duchess. These were fresh and delicious.
Out came our food, and we were super keen to get into it. First up, the bacon and egg on brioche. A French twist on an Aussie classic. This was delicious, with plenty of bacon, fried egg and tasty BBQ sauce. The brioche bun added a nice sweet twist and was super soft.
We also had field mushroom, spinach, goats cheese and poached egg with sourdough. This was delicious - all the right flavours and beautifully cooked. It felt healthy, but tasted ah-mazing.
One of the highlights was absolutely the Napolean. Ham and egg baked into flaky pastry, served with red pepper marmalade, everything about this made Duchess want more. Just cutting into the pastry, watching it flake, then having it melt in your mouth. YUM!
You can't go past sweet treats when at a French cafe, and we certainly indulged! The flourless chocolate cake was divine - perfectly baked with a crispy outside, and a moist, chewy inside. It wasn't too rich, either.
We also had the lemon tarts, which were the ultimate crisp pastry with a zesty lemon cream filling. Our favourite, however, were the creme brulee. OMG. To die for. These were a small serving, but to be honest, we could have had 5 more. The perfect vanilla bean flavour, with a crispy surface, and deliciously custard cream. Duchess would go back just for these.
We had a wonderful chat with Alena, who owns Frenchy's with her husband. Their story is truly fascinating - they owned two cafes in Paris before returning to Australia, starting a family, and setting up Frenchy's. We were impressed by Alena's passion for her job, and she had some great stories. Apparently we missed seeing USA Vice President Mike Pence a week before our visit. If you're looking for another reason to visit, surely knowing the VP went here is reason enough!
Thank you so much to Alena and your wonderful staff for such a hospitable visit to Frenchy's. We were impressed by the service, the food and the atmosphere. We'll be back for lunch soon!
