Mango Tree Restaurant Karaoke & Bar
169-171 Rowe St
Eastwood, Sydney
We’ll confess - we’re not really Karaoke people. So the idea of going to a place that has Karaoke in its title is a bit daunting. Nevertheless, Mango Tree is also a Thai restaurant and this was our reason for visiting. It’s an interesting place - big and cavernous on entry - with comfy booths with tables and bench seating down the wall. At the back there’s a corridor with private Karaoke rooms. It really doesn’t look or feel like your typical Thai restaurant - but don’t be fooled.
We started with crab spring rolls. Now if it’s confession time we admit we love crispy spring rolls in most varieties. Crab was certainly a variation which appealed. We’re glad we did have these - they were great with a nice crunchy outer pastry surrounding a tasty filling.
Our second starter was some delicious duck san choi bao. The fresh crisp lettuce cups were packed with plenty of juicy tender duck chunks in this filling dish.
On to main courses and we couldn’t resist the whole fresh crispy snapper with house sweet chilli sauce. This was a massive dish and big on flavours too. There was a huge pile of crispy snapper pieces drizzled with the tangy sauce. Beside this was a combination of chunky vegetables and fruit (including lychees and pineapple pieces). We loved this “must have” dish.
Being at a Thai restaurant we also decided to have a curry dish. It was a tough choice as there were so many options but we landed on an old favourite of red curry beef. It was again a good sized serving full of beef pieces all swimming in a nice spicy sauce. Our side of rice soaked this up perfectly.
Mango Tree was a surprise packet. We were very impressed with the food. It doesn’t appear like your usual Thai restaurant but the food is delicious and you certainly won’t leave hungry!
