MediTrainean is such an innovative and unique place to eat. It’s like a sushi train but with a great European twist. You can order “on the train” or you can select from the “made to order” menu. Or do what a lot of people were doing – including us – mix it up and order from both menus. There is also a “Shared Dining” part to the menu as well with delicious selections designed for “Feasts for two”. Not forgetting the children – there is also a “Kids Meals” menu.
There certainly was a real buzz to the place and they were busy. Right at the front as you enter you can see the hot food being grilled. We took our seats and ordered a wine each. Mlady had a glass of Merlot and Sir ordered a Pinot Grigio. These certainly complemented our dishes. Oh dear, so many choices, so many delicious things to try. After much deliberation we started with a dip and then made our way up to more substantial dishes. We had the Chickpea dip – tahini, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil and a serving of Flat bread. This was really yummy and the flat bread came wrapped to keep it fresh.
Next was the Tabbouli – again this was delish and so fresh. The Zucchini Parmigiana – baked layers of pan fried zucchini, Napoli sauce and a trio of cheeses was absolutely delish! Yum yum and yum!
Sir ordered the Scallops – in half shell with dukkah gratin. Cutely presented in their shells, moist with a nice crunch of the dukkah gratin.
Mlady ordered Salmon which came on a skewer in a citrus and dill marinade. Lovely! It was nicely cooked not overdone, not dry – was so tasty. Squeezing the lemon added to the mouth-watering taste.
Next choice was the chorizo. We simply love chorizo and this was incredibly tasty with a lovely sauce and there was plenty of chorizo. The fish cake was divine – fresh Atlantic salmon, potato, onion, celery, carrots, lemon zest, parsley and dill mousse. This was such a substantial fish cake with great flavours.
For dessert we shared a Baklava – cashew and honey. This was crunchy, flaky and not too sweet – a really nice dessert.
The next dessert was really amazing! It was a passionfruit brulee. Seriously this was good. It did not have that “Slap in the face” kind of taste that passionfruit can often have – this had the most subtle of flavours. One of the best brulees.
The food here is delicious with generous servings. There are many choices to choose from and you can mix and match. It's a lot of fun too - we loved it and it seemed everyone else around us did too. They can seat 107 and are open 7 days a week.
Sir and Mlady dined as guests of MediTrainean. Big thank you to Ashley the owner for taking time out from his busy schedule to chat with us and look after us. Thank you also to Annika and Brooke for looking after us. Special thanks to Monique from CoCreate Group for arranging this visit.
