It's that exciting and colourful time again! VIVID! When Sydney is ablaze with wonderful colours and lights.
That's exactly what we had at Steel bar and Grill - a delicious meal with wonderful colours and vibrancy to mark the occasion of Vivid.
We commenced our colourful journey with Mlady savouring a very nice Tempranillo and Sir a crisp Sauvignon Blanc. To begin our colourful journey we started with a serving of very tasty marinated olives - nice.
As an entree we had the Crisp Tempura Zucchini Flowers - Pumpkin, ricotta, raisins, smoked walnut, lemon and chive mascarpone. Seriously these were good. Such a delicious soft crisp with an amazing soft centre and wonderful combination of flavours, then dragging the zucchini flower through the mascarpone - Yummo.
Also as entree we had Red snapper Tartare - Yuzu and coconut emulsion, avocado mousse, sake and grapefruit gel, edamame foam, corn cracker. This was such a "vivid" dish that was so fresh and flavoursome. It had great textures and combinations - the sake and grapefruit gel gave it a good burst of refreshing citrus with that little bit of wow taste. The coolness of the Red napper with the corn cracker crunch - lovely.
Our last entree was the Smoked beef Carpaccio - Goats cheese and horseradish cream, preserved lemon, frisee, parmesan crisps. pickled shimeji mushroom. Elegant presentation. The incredible tasting smoked beef carpaccio really was delicious. Such a shame to share with Sir. This was a lovely fresh dish where all the flavours came together and complimented.
For a main we had the "Vivid" chicken. It consisted of pumpkin puree, there were nut grains, scorched pumpkin and the skin was oh so yum. Great flavours on the skin and the chicken was tender and so moist. Mlady thoroughly enjoyed this Simply loved this mouth watering dish.
Sir - as main had the ducks breast which was appetisingly tender and perfectly pink. It was nicely contrasted with the nut textures and the sultanas gave it a wonderful sweetness. Sir as we knows loves his duck and this was no exception. He loved this dish.
Sir also had a Pinot Noir with his meal, which went very well.
We also had a few salads. A smoked beetroot salad with quinoa and fetta scattered. A lovely "vivid" colour - with the vibrant beetroot and white scattered fetta. The nice smokiness flavour came through and it was subtle where it did not at all overpower this refreshing salad. Sir really enjoyed this salad.
The other salad was a crunchy apple salad with black sesame dressing with Cos lettuce. Mlady loves her greens whether that be fruit or veggies. The crunchiness of the Cos lettuce, the crispness of the cool apple, the amazing black sesame dressing - divine. Mlady loved this.
As a dessert we had the "Steel Vivid Lamington". How Vivid was this! Such a lovely array of colour and did this taste good or what! The wonderful taste of the coconut. Oh and the ganache - so smooth, such a wonderful chocolate flavour! A great "Vivid" dessert.
We completed our "Vivid" journey with petit fours. Such a sumptuous presentation. Truffles - a wonderful tasting indulgence, yuzo jelly - incredibly oh my gosh mouth wateringly good, tea cakes - how cute are these - with a light and fluffy marshmallow centre - lovely.
The food at Steel bar and grill is delicious, elegant, flavoursome with a great combination of textures and flavours.
