“Meet the Producers” Event
Harris Farm Market on Victoria Rd Drummoyne is a big and inviting foodie’s paradise. It plays host to this wonderful seafood outlet which has some really impressive produce on offer. There’s a mouthwatering counter display with loads of fresh oysters, clams, scampi and sea urchins, to name just a few. It is a feast for the eyes, for sure, but you can feast for real at the “Raw Bar” which serves these treats at their very best. Here, you can see your oysters being freshly shucked for you and your sushi being made to order.
On this night the producers were showcasing their products with preparation and cooking demonstrations as well as public tastings. There was a great range on show and the sushi chef worked madly as the room filled up. His work looked amazing and the sashimi and sushi were super fresh and tasty.
We sampled some steamed Cloudy Bay wild clams from New Zealand (we hadn’t had clams before) and loved the light, salty taste. These would be perfect as a starter or scattered through a pasta dish. Yum! We loved them so much we got some to take home.
The Kinkawooka live pot-ready mussels were a real treat too. These freshly-steamed shellfish from South Australia were soft and sweet and just too easy to eat! Near the mussels was a plate of Saikou sashimi cut from Mt Cook Alpine Salmon. This salmon farm is the highest in the world and is fed by fast-flowing pure glacial water. I dare anyone to find a better sashimi than this! So buttery, silky in texture and fresh tasting. We made a mental note to buy some of this superb fish.
Now Tasmanian Huon smoked salmon (already Dame M’s favourite ) was there on display and we didn’t need an invitation to get over there. They had succulent smoked salmon and trout to sample. While similar, we did notice the difference in taste between the two, but loved them both. There was also a delicious dip made from the smoked trout. Such a top-notch producer, it was no surprise to find their products here.
Paul Papacosta is one of the family owners of this fabulous place. He was on deck this evening, passing around samples and looking proud. He should be too. The seafood was superb – so fresh you could taste it in every mouthful. They obviously source the best product and take great care of it.
Apart from Drummoyne, Sydney Fresh Seafood has outlets in Manly, Wetherill Park and Potts Point. They are open 7am until 10pm every day.
Those Dames, who review for Sir and Mlady Dine Out, dined as guests of Sydney Fresh Seafood. Special thanks to Paul Papacosta. Thanks also to Bianca Colley for this invitation.
