The General
514 Marrickville Rd
Dulwich Hill, Sydney
We love our weekend brunches and are always looking for new places to visit, so we recently got in the car and visited The General in Dulwich Hill. It's located on Marrickville Rd, right where all the action is. It was easy to get to and there was lots of parking nearby too.
Inside the space is relaxed with wooden furniture. The layout is open plan with a kitchen that's visible to everyone. There's also a little stand where you can buy lovely supplies like delicious homemade relishes, sauces and marinated olives.
We started with a quick coffee and chose long blacks, something we do with caution when we visit a new place. The coffee was great though. Full bodied and full of crema. Exactly what you want when you order a long black.
The food was just as good. Count N went for the healthy option and chose the ancient grain salad with some lemon and herb poached chicken. The salad was literally bursting with flavour, it was fresh and featured such lovely combination of flavours with grains like barley, quinoa and lentils all dressed with a slightly sweet pomegranate dressing. The chicken was an optional extra, the salad would have been just as delicious by itself or you could choose a different protein - there was lamb or a BBQ brisket on the menu as well.
Count J felt like a burger and chose the bacon deluxe. It featured everything you would expect to see in a classic burger - delicious beef patty, cheese, pickles and of course quite a bit of bacon, all nestled in a milky soft bun. The fries were great too.
We also snuck in a freshly made salted caramel and pretzel donut. It was so Moorish it was gone in a few bites.
The General Dulwich Hill impressed us with its good food, great service and relaxed vibe. If you haven't had a chance to check it out, we would highly recommend you do. They are also open for dinner so we'll back soon to check it their dinner menu soon.
