Zepher Tours: Hunter Valley Wine Tour
We both love the Hunter Valley and have lost count of how many times we have driven there. This time we visited the Hunter in style doing a Zepher Tour.
We were picked up from a designated spot and met our guide Daniel and his assistant Saskia. We also picked up a few more people on the way. Our group was intimate - just 14 of us.
It was so good to sit back, relax and take in the sights whilst some –one else drove.
It was a glorious sunny day, blue skies with only a slight chill in the air.
We visited 3 wineries, a vodka distillery and a chocolate shop. It was a full day that was just so enjoyable and memorable.
Our first winery was Allandale. It really is a real science in making wine and Adrian our host explained the various conditions in weather and temperatures in producing the whites and reds. Sampling the various wines was lovely but we were also gaining an education in the process.
Next we visited Hermitage Road cellars. Again sampling the various wines was lovely and we also stopped here for lunch.
Lunch was delicious and the servings were substantial. You select from the menu which meal you desire.
One of the young girls on our tour who was from overseas – it was her birthday. So accompanying her dessert was written “Happy Birthday” in chocolate on her plate. It was such a nice touch.
After our yummy lunch we went to a Vodka Distillery. There were so many flavours and the samples were presented in a “test tube”. You could really taste the various flavours in the vodka. We got to taste a good selection of the various flavoured Vodka’s. There was choc mint vodka that truly tasted like the Choc Mint slice biscuits – this was so good. Another fave was the ginger Vodka. This really was a great visit, we thoroughly enjoyed this.
Our last winery was called Lucys Run. It was a smaller intimate winery compared to the others and the owners made us all very welcome. They explained the various processes involved in making the wines and also explained what they hoped to produce for next year. They kindly provided a very tasty selection of various cheeses and a delicious selection of different dukkha’s, some bread and olive oils with an “oh so good” balsamic vinegar. Dipping the bread into the olive oil and dukkha’s – divine.
The last visit was a chocolate shop which also had some yummy fudge. This shop was big with a great selection to choose from. We tried some very tasty samples and then we bought some chocolate. The chocolate here is good and this was a nice way to complete our great day.
We really had such a lovely full day as we arrived as individuals and left as friends. It was a wonderful experience that we will always fondly remember.
Sir and Mlady were guests of Zepher Tours - and loved every minute of the day!
