Monkey King
338 Pacific Highway
Lindfield, Sydney
This lovely restaurant has a very comfortable modern and yet casual feel to it.
It is nicely decorated in warm colours and natural textures with a black ceiling creating a striking look but yet not overpowering.
We were there on a week night and for a Tuesday it was surprisingly busy and the take-away orders were flying out the door at a great rate.
These Dames had a great experience at Monkey King Thai in Newport, so we were excited to sample what the Lindfield outlet had to offer. The menu is quite lengthy and the choice is really good. We started with appetisers of Satay Skewers (6 pieces) and Golden Bags (4 pieces).
The Satay Skewers were tender breast pieces which were not overcooked (which is a common failing at a lot of places). They were smothered in a generous serve of chunky peanut sauce and served with a traditional cucumber relish.
The Golden Bags were crispy and tasty with a plum dipping sauce. Both of these dishes were really great starters!
Our first main was the Creamy Sweet Basil with King Prawns, from the specials menu.
The flavour was sensational. Big juicy prawns and vegetables were topped with crispy fried basil leaves (yum) and - that sauce!
This was so good that we didn’t leave a drop of it on the plate.
Pad Thai Punim was our second choice. Two of our all-time favourites on the one plate!
If you are partial to a traditional Pad Thai then this is a good one for you, with just the right balance of flavours.
It also has crispy deep fried soft shell crab piled on top, which was a very good match for the dish. Delicious.
We didn’t need it, but couldn’t resist a third main of Roasted Duck Salad.
This was fresh and tasty, with roasted duck in a sweet chilli jam. It was topped with a coconut milk dressing and cashews.
We love our duck and this one certainly didn’t disappoint! It was a good light contrast to our other menu choices. The duck was succulent and tasty.
Monkey King Thai has Singha beer on tap and a wine list. There is also a signature Cabernet Sauvignon, which is very good, and a nice pale ale which is a tangy accompaniment to their dishes. Open 7 days, there are some great lunch specials and banquet options on the menu for groups.
It is no surprise that this place is popular with the locals. It’s warm and inviting and the food is exceptional. Not your average Thai place. Even if you are not a local, Lindfield station is right at the door, so anyone can get there easily and have a few drinks too. These Dames will definitely be back again.
Those Dames, who review for Sir and Mlady Dine Out, dined as guests of Monkey King Thai. Big thanks to owner Top for this invitation.
