Big Daddy's Burger Bar
227 King St
Newtown, Sydney
Big Daddy's Burger Bar can be found on the bustling King Street in Newtown, surrounded by restaurants on both sides of the street. You can't miss it though, with a distinct red and white shopfront and it's American theme visible from the street. Once inside, we took a few moments to take in the posters covering the walls, neon signs and the great 90s tunes playing in the background. It had a great vibe and felt like we had actually stepped into an American burger bar.
Looking at the menu, we knew we'd done the right thing by having a light lunch. Everything sounded delicious and there were quite a few things we wanted to try, from burgers and subs to hotdogs, sides and shakes. We settled on a smorgasbord which included wings, cheese sticks, a hotdog, a burger, curly fries and some shakes.
The New York Style hotdog was the first cab off the rank and was delish with mustard, sauerkraut, melted cheese and Big D's special mayo. The sausage had a great smoky flavour and the sauerkraut was a great way to cut through the mustard and mayo.
Next up was the SAYMYNAME burger and curly fries. With Canadian bacon, American cheese, onion rings and smokey BBQ sauce, this burger had the makings of something great - and it definitely delivered. Not greasy, and just the right amount, it was a hearty burger that was all about good flavours. The curly fries were seasoned perfectly and didn't need a sauce as an accompaniment, yet was especially tasty with the chipotle mayo.
The cheese sticks and wings came out next, which were both great to share. The cheese sticks were crunchy and gooey but not greasy, and we'd definitely order these again. Again, these were great on their own but really great with the chipotle mayo or the Big D's special mayo. Wings are an all time favourite of the Viscountess so impressing her would be a tough feat. Big Daddy's is now on the list of favourites though, with the juicy chicken, tasty coating and the unforgettable 'blue' blue cheese.
Last, we were treated with a Rock Salt Caramel and a Peanut Butter Fudge shake. Although we were full from all the food, these were too good not to finish. Creamy and indulgent and with a bit of a crunch, these shakes were so tasty we were satisfied to the very last sip.
Viscount and Viscountess left Big Daddy's burger bar extremely full and satisfied, but without that heavy feeling in the stomach that we've all experienced. High quality and carefully thought out ingredients are evident throughout the menu, and we'll be visiting again soon to make our way through the rest of the options.
Viscount and Viscountess dined as guests of Big Daddy's Burger Bar. Special thanks to Claire and April from CPM Online Marketing Solutions for arranging this visit.
