Cheng Kitchen
54 Campbell St
Haymarket, Sydney
Dropped in for a quick lunch bite here. It's in an area that is literally drowning in Thai restaurants so there's no shortage of choices. At first glance from the street it seems like a small place, but once inside it's bigger than some of their neighbours.
Even though you decide not to have starters before you arrive, it's so hard to stick to this once you're there, isn't it? We grabbed a serving of satay chicken skewers. These come in four's and the chicken was tender and juicy and the sauce was nice and nutty as expected.
A simple yet good filler is pad see eiw. This one had chicken in it. The rich sauce coated the flat wide noodles nicely and there was plenty of tender chicken there too. A splash of colour came from the added greens.
For something a bit spicier there's always red curry beef. This lunch special was again a decent sized serving. The red curry had a bit of bite - but not to much. The beef was tender and it all went nicely with the side of fluffy rice that comes with the dish.
While they have a lengthy menu covering plenty of different dishes, it's hard to go past the lunch menu during weekdays. For just $9 you get a meal and a drink - which certainly is a bargain.
Cheng Kitchen is open 7 days a week from 10am till 11:30pm. We enjoyed our meals and it didn't hit our wallets much at all.
