Indian food with a difference. That’s Dishoom. They have several venues across London. Their Covent Garden restaurant always has a queue - especially in the evening. It’s so popular they even have a roped waiting area outside - and an overflow waiting area as well. They operate all day too - which is quite rare for an Indian restaurant. We’d eaten here before for dinner on another visit so trying their famous breakfast seemed like a good idea.

Any breakfast for us starts with coffee. Our orders were taken quickly and the drinks arrived promptly too while we studied the menu. It’s a very different set of breakfast choices here and we struggled to make our decisions as so many things looked good.

The Big Bombay is the breakfast for those who are very hungry. It’s a full plate too. It has Akuri, char-striped smoked streaky bacon from Ramsay of Carluke, peppery Shropshire pork sausages, masala beans, grilled field mushrooms, grilled tomato and buttered, home-made buns. It’s a field of flavours that will also certainly fill anyone. Impressive.

The Keema Per Eedu is described as a Parsi power breakfast. It is described in the menu as spicy chicken keema studded with delicate morsels of chicken liver, topped with two runny-yolked fried eggs and sali crisp-chips and served with home-made buns. It was a pretty dish with the eggs peering back from on top of the spicy chicken mix. It was extremely tasty too with a good kick to start the day!

The naan rolls here are probably the most famous breakfast they have. There are all sorts of combinations, but the bacon and egg naan roll was an easy choice. Their naans are all freshly baked in house to order in their own tandoor oven. They are then spread with some cream cheese, chilli tomato jam and fresh herbs. Next comes the filling of your choice. As before, they used Ramsay of Carluke’s smoked streaky bacon. This bacon is matured for two weeks and smoked overnight in the traditional fashion. With eggs being added it produced a lovely Indian variation of a B & E roll. It was easy to see why these are so popular. They’re very filling too.

With so many choices here just for breakfast, we’ll definitely be back. The fact that it’s also close to where we stay is an added bonus.
