DRIFTWOOD ON THE BAY | LA PEROUSE, SYDNEY

Driftwood On The Bay

La Perouse, Sydney

Driftwood On The Bay is a casual, friendly venue with a quirky interior. There are cute "fairy" lights outside that add to the charm of the place. If the thought of good Italian and seafood all in one place gets your juices flowing then you need to float by Driftwood by the bay.

We both started our meal with a Merlot each - Mlady's favourite. If you love a good wine and it's red (like Mlady does) it can still complement all food - says she!

For starters we had the Salt and Pepper squid and asked for this to come with salad as opposed to a serving of chips. How impressive was this! It was so tender and tasty and just melted in your mouth. The salad partnered the squid well. It was fresh and vibrant and had a nice light dressing on it. We asked for a salad as we knew that one of our mains came with chips.

We also shared a Bruschetta. This really was so tasty. All the goodies held court on sourdough which we told Driftwood by the bay has 3 different types of sourdough and also has gluten free bread. This bruschetta was good and it really was a good tasty sharing plate. It set the mood of what was to follow.

For mains we chose from the "Specials" board - Fisherman's basket - grilled garlic buttered prawns, fish, calamari, octopus and mussels with chips. Such an impressive presentation. This was all deliciously displayed "in a basket"! So much fish - yummo. We were hard pressed deciding on what piece of fish to eat first. Sir ended up choosing the prawn first and Mlady the octopus.  Underneath all of this was a serving of chips. Fish 'n chips - seriously - how good is this combination. It's universal! We both thoroughly enjoyed this.

Our next main was the Barrmundi Burre Blanc - grilled barramundi with salted chat potatoes, green beans and lemon butter. Well, Mlady - a HUGE barramundi fan - loved this. The all important crispy skin, this had - nice. Such a great dish. Combined so well with the green beans, salted chat potatoes and the lemon better. The barramundi was cooked to perfection. A thoroughly delish dish.

We also had a delicious grilled fish burger that was packed with stacks of fish and served in a soft and tasty bun. We almost fought over this!

For dessert - we struggled but we just had to have the home-made Tiramisu and home-made caramel slice. OMG - seriously how good were these. The caramel slice - oh, a wonderful thick caramel, an amazing base and such a yummy chocolate top. This is one of the best caramel slices we have had!

The Tiramisu - well, truly this was so good. It was light, so light and so delicious. A real pleasure to eat this and again one of the best!

The food here is really tasty and the servings are massive so you won't leave hungry. The service is friendly and helpful. Chef Malibu has created a delicious varied menu with interesting combinations.

Sir and Mlady dined as guests of Driftwood On The Bay. Thank you to Brogan for taking care of us on the night. Special thanks to Mike Heavener from Ompty.com for arranging this visit - and by the way this is a food site you should also check out for some great deals.
