Ecco Ristorante
2 St Georges Cres
Drummoyne, Sydney
For spectacular water views, watching the world go by and yachts race whilst enjoying exquisite fine dining – Ecco certainly is the place to be. Ecco is a breathtaking venue that seats approximately 200. For starters we indulged with a cool refreshing Aperol Spritz.
We had a lovely serving of artisan sourdough focaccia with olive oil to start the food journey. It was impossible to resist grazing on this.
Next were some Narooma (NSW) Sydney rock oysters with watermelon salsa – these were colourful and delicious.
Our passion for arancini was then satisfied with the arrival of four very tasty morsels. These veal and pork arancini balls looked golden and even though we were pacing ourselves we ate the lot.
On the menu as Fiori – zucchini flowers, mint, basil, lemon zest, ricotta. Being partial to zucchini we had to try these. They were lightly crisped on the outside with plenty of tasty goodies inside. Calamari – mint and pickle was next. This was so soft, ever so lightly crisped outside and the calamari simply just melted in your mouth. The mint gave it a very tasty freshness – lovely.
Still with the theme of seafood – and loving it - we had Polipo – local octopus, potato, sun dried tomato, pistachio. Simply divine! So soft and tender sitting on a bed of fluffy mash. An absolutely stunning dish – from presentation to palate. We loved the BBQ char flavour too. This was one of the best octopus dishes.
Sir had a Sangiovese – which always goes down well.
Fichi was next – oven roasted figs, prosciutto San Daniele, gorgonzola. So many amazing flavours and textures that all complimented one another. The sweetness of the fig shone through and we thoroughly enjoyed this.
An old time favourite was next – Gnocchi. This was Gnocchi con cicale di mare – homemade gnocchi, Moreton bay bug meat, cream, tomato. A really lovely soft house made gnocchi with great flavours. A very tasty dish.
Pesce intero – whole NZ snapper, salmoriglio was our last fish dish. Lovely crisp skin (Mlady loves crispy skin) and the snapper was beautifully cooked. A truly delicious meal.
Our last main was Vitello alla Milanese – veal cutlet, roasted capsicums. The bright red roasted capsicums added a wonderful vibrancy accompanying the perfectly cooked veal that had a wonderful soft tender meat with a golden outside crisp coating. A very tasty meal.
We did share a salad. It was Insalata Di Agrumi – orange, pomegranate, fennel, citrus dressing. How versatile is pomegranate! It adds crispness and its delicate deep colour adds vibrancy to whatever it is added to. This was a lovely fresh and zesty tasting salad.
For dessert we shared Semifreddo al pistachio. The light fresh green colour made it very appetising which tasted really good. It was a very pretty dessert that complimented our amazing meal.
The food at Ecco is Delicious was a capital “D”. The presentations are a real works of art and the servings are substantial.
Sir and Mlady dined as guests of Ecco. Big thank you to Carmen/owner and Daniel for taking time away from their busy schedules to spend time with us. Thank you to Giuseppe for taking care of us on the day. Thanks also to chef Simone, Mathew and Anthony.
