Fratelli Fresh
118 Willoughby Rd
Crows Nest, Sydney
There's no hiding our love of Italy and Italian food. Mind you, we love food from everywhere to be honest, but Italy is a bit special. Fratelli is a name that';s well know across Sydney - and quite rightly growing. They do good Italian food in good quantities at good prices. It's clearly a winning combination. With this in mind we dropped in on their newish Crows Nest restaurant. This place is quite big. It used to be a club previously - so there's room to move.
We commenced with a serving of the Fratelli dough balls with garlic butter. We weren't sure how big they'd be and whether we'd need two serves because they sounded so good. They lived up to our expectations. These dough balls were great and it was a good sized serving too!
Starters finished, we moved on to mains. Mlady went for the tagliatelle meatballs served with a rich tomato passata. Unsurprisingly, it was a good sized serving and a tasty dish. Meatballs might seem like such a stereotypical dish, but hey - why not when it's done well.
Sir loves his lamb so the lamb ragù with rosemary and chilli served with al dente penne. It was a big, hearty and very tasty dish that warmed him and left him very satisfied.
Of course a drop of red, or a few drops of red, are essential as well. We didn't want to break with this tradition so ordered a bottle of chianti. Drinking Italian wine when eating Italian food isn't essential, but it certainly isn't a bad idea either!
Dessert beckoned and we had one each with the idea we'd share - yeah right! Mlady loves a good vanilla ice cream so she ordered the made for Fratelli Tahitian Vanilla. Sir grabbed a tiramisu that arrived served in a coffee cup - and it was a big cup too! It was a lovely sweet finale to a tasty dinner.
Fratelli - we know what to expect - good food, good service and a pleasant place to eat - and we always get it. Keep it up!
