Kelly's Bar and Grill
(Inside Westfield Bondi Junction)
500 Oxford St.
Bondi Junction, Sydney
This big eatery is set up high in the Westfield building and is certainly in a choice spot. With high ceilings and sweeping city views, the setting is bright and airy. It’s a whole new world up in the restaurant precinct and it’s hard to believe you are actually in a shopping centre! Wow – the menu is so extensive and looks enticing. Share plates and entrees, lovely salads, seafood and of course MEAT! Do it your way here – the menu is designed to be flexible. Eat a little or a lot, share, don’t share, choose your salad and meat combinations, add some sides, choose your sauces – we love all this choice! It really is about the customers being happy here. It felt like a cocktail moment, so we ordered a pine-lime crush and a berry martini. Nice! The berry martini was a rich deep crimson colour and had a lovely fruity kick to it. The pine-lime was reminiscent of a splice - as it should be.
A complimentary warm brioche loaf with butter arrived unexpectedly - as it does for everyone. Very nice! All the entrees looked good, but we chose some old favourites - the crumbed, fried camembert with cranberry sauce and the calamari with tartare sauce. Both were delish!
Meat was on our minds today and the grills looked like a must to try. Dame M likes a good steak and the beef eye fillet sounded perfect, with different size options to suit your appetite. It was a succulent, tender and thick piece of meat which was ordered medium rare and cooked exactly to order. Couldn’t fault this dish. The sauce chosen was a pepper, mushroom and cream and the mash potato was smooth and satisfying. Dame K likes ribs so she chose the pork ribs with vegetables. Don’t sizzling marinated ribs look amazing when they arrive! These were truly delicious and Dame K announced they were probably the best ribs she has ever tasted. Wow They were very meaty and melt-in-the-mouth tender.
Let there be dessert! Both the mains were sizeable dishes but we wanted to try something sweet. So the chef’s special baked cheesecake and a fresh mango sorbet were chosen. The cheesecake was as special as we expected – very creamy and surprisingly light. We didn’t expect to finish it but we actually devoured it. The sorbet was also impressive, with all the taste of a fresh mango.
The overall experience here at Kelly’s was excellent. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff friendly and helpful and the food was high quality. All the dishes were generously sized. Kelly’s is open every day for lunch from midday and then again each night from 5.30pm for dinner. Definitely worth a visit!
Those Dames, who review for Sir and Mlady Dine Out, dined as guests of Kelly's Bar and Grill. Special thanks to Claire McPherson of CPM Online Marketing Solutions for arranging this visit.
