NO NAME ITALIAN RESTAURANT | DARLINGHURST, SYDNEY

No Name Italian Restaurant
2 Chapel St
Darlinghurst, Sydney

Wander down what is little more than a alley in Darlinghurst, known as Chapel St, and you may find No Name Italian Restaurant. The emphasis is is is on "may" because this place isn't highly signposted and isn't easy to find down an alley, in a doorway and up a flight of stairs.

This isn't your typical Darlinghurst restaurant. Far from it in fact. It's a humble place, basic, not fancy, austere - whatever else you may call it. The room is sparse with laminate tables, basic mismatched chairs, a blackboard menu on a wall at the far end that's a bit hard to read and an open kitchen.

Nevertheless, this place has developed quite a reputation for hearty food in big servings at very very low prices. In fact most dishes are no more than $10! Once seated they bring you a big basket of thickly cut fresh bread and cordial or water.

We were with a group grabbing a bite before heading off elsewhere. It is an Italian restaurant by name so a few went for the same dish, Spaghetti bolognese. It was their typical big serving arriving quickly.

The other speciality here at No Name is their schnitzels. They are very popular and a few of our group got stuck into them.

A couple of the other dishes tried were the veal saltimbocca and the minestrone. Both were massive servings that would fill any hungry person (or two perhaps).

No Name Italian Restaurant serves very affordable hearty food in very humble and hard to find surroundings. It's not fine dining but it fills you up and doesn't hurt your wallet at all.
