OUTPOST ESPRESSO | COLLAROY, SYDNEY

Just adjacent to the golf course is one of the busiest cafes we have seen. It’s a small place and we arrived to find a queue at the counter and all the outside tables were full. It’s always promising when a place is so popular. We took a table inside and checked out the menu on the blackboards above the counter.

Light and fresh seemed to be the style here – nothing greasy at all. You can order from the menu or choose from the offerings in the display counter. The coffee is Campos and they do it well - the barista was frantic the whole time, pumping out the wonderful brews.

The Bircher Muesli was our first choice. This was a soft muesli mixture served with berries and topped with poached pears. Very easy to eat and moreish.

We followed this with the Avocado Toast and it arrived on sourdough with lemon and a light dressing topped with dukkah. It was totally delicious and we agreed that the toast was just right – soft in the middle and crispy on the outside. Happy to say it was completely demolished.

Another delight was the Smoked Salmon Bowl. This was a super fresh salad of kale, edamame beans, freekah and sliced avocado with 2 boiled eggs, smoked salmon and lemon. It was actually as good as it looked and such a generous serving. This was a really healthy choice with a great combination of ingredients and tasty flavours.

We loved the coffee so much we ordered a second cup – it was clear why so many people were keen for it. Despite being busy, the staff were all smiles and efficiency. Outpost is located just a short stroll to the beach and many of the customers were dog-owners out for morning walkies. It’s open from 6am until 2pm Monday to Saturday and 7am until 2pm Sundays.

Thanks to the lovely Michelle who looked after us so well and also to Claire and April from CPM Online for the invitation.
