Panama House
180-186 Campbell Parade
Bondi Beach, Sydney
Panama House sits in such an idyllic location - upstairs gazing out across the road right on to Bondi Beach. The views are spectacular and it is no surprise that they take full advantage of them. High floor to ceiling glass lets the light and outside views in to the room. There’s also a pretty balcony with heaters for cooler evenings. These spots go quickly.
The inside of Panama House has a calm industrial feel to it. It’s clearly a place to relax and chill and you get that feel the minute you walk in the place.
Drinks are the way to start an evening like this! Mlady went straight for the wine and had a Pinot Noir and Sir dfid the same with a GCS. We stayed with these as they were great and also went really well with our meals.
To start, as we love oysters, we had the freshly shucked Sydney rock oysters, green tabasco and lime. Squirt some lime and add a dash of green tabasco and what you get is a great taste sensation with a nice bit of kick to it too. This was such a nice way to commence our meal.
Sir is quite partial to ceviche so we had to try this. It was ocean trout ceviche, finger lime, radish, fennel, quinoa cracker. This was a pretty dish that was very colourful and the flavours were so fresh. Again squirting the lime to enhance the flavours and scooping up the ocean trout with the tasty crunchy quinoa cracker – so nice!
We both do love seafood so we just had to try the soft shell crab taco’s. This was soft cell crab, avocado, cucumber, chipotle aioli. It was a light, tasty dish with a bit of a bite due to the chipotle aioli. We really enjoyed this dish.
Oh - the beef brisket – jerk-spiced beef brisket, apple slaw, celery pickle, house BBQ sauce - amazing. This was such a visually appetising dish too. It had lovely aroma’s and plenty of house BBQ sauce slathered on it. The meat was cooked perfectly and the apple slaw and celery pickle combined so well. It had a really nice bite to it which we both enjoyed. This was certainly one of our faves. The beef brisket is truly a delicious dish.
If you are partial to a good cheese dish, this next dish is for you! Charred–jalapeno Mac-n-Cheese, pancetta, manchego béchamel, parmesan crust. A definite must for cheese lovers! Sir devoured it!
The wine was going well so we continued with the same ones. There was plenty to choose from but when you’re on a good thing, stick to it.
We managed to fit in dessert and what a mouth-watering dessert! Waffles with bananas – such a good combo and the sauce was a rich gorgeous butterscotch. Soaking up the banana and soft waffle and getting as much of this amazing sauce on your spoon was so scrumptious. A seriously good dessert!
The food at Panama House is flavoursome, varied and substantial. There is a good mix of dishes with wonderful combinations and textures and they really have the whole Latin-American theme happening with their food.
Sir and Mlady dined as guests of Panama House. Big thank you to Chef Chris Fitton for his wonderful creations. Thank you to Josefin for looking after us on the night.
