SITNEY THAI - CANLEY VALE, SYDNEY
10-12 Canley Vale Rd
Canley Vale, Sydney
We were surrounded by lovely Asian murals, vibrant colours and designs, bench seats adorned with bright Asian silk cushions and carved brightly painted partitions. The lights were set at different levels which gave this restaurant an upbeat but relaxed feel. The Thai street scene on the back wall was a great touch.
We set out on the very difficult task of ordering from the specials board or being tempted by the big menu.
We had three entrées - and the first two were lovely home-made curry puffs with sweet chilli sauce and some very tasty soft shell crab,
This completely delicious signature dish of Sitney Thai was roti wrapped around shredded chicken with fresh herbs, finished off with a red curry sauce (our favourite).
We have never had this dish before – and we totally loved it!
It's fresh and astringent tastes worked well to balance with the richer dishes.
The barbecue pork neck, another speciality here, was so tender it melted in your mouth, and the flavours were simply delectable.
It was covered with a beautifully golden, tasty and nicely crunchy tempura batter.
The squid was succulent and tender, cooked to perfection.
We really loved it and cleared the plate!
On to Dessert. We ordered one of Dame C’s old favourites - sticky rice with coconut cream sauce (it did not disappoint) and from the specials board the fried ice cream.
A wedge of ice cream cleverly wrapped in what might have been filo pastry, and then deep fried.
It was finished with a sprinkling of icing sugar and garnished with toasted coconut – delicious!
You can choose from a selection of flavours for the ice cream with this dish. Dame M loved this!
Sitney Thai stands out. It is reasonably priced for both food and drinks and it’s clean and friendly. It has a comprehensive menu, catering for large groups or a single dropping in for a quick lunch. It has a fully licensed bar with wine by the glass or bottle. It also has BYO wine.
The kitchen is open so all cooking and preparation is visible to diners, another tick in our book. Would recommend a visit to Sitney Thai.
Those Dames, who are now doing reviews for Sir and Mlady Dine Out, dined as guests of Sitney Thai. Special thanks to Beth Manche from Hooked Marketing and Creative for arranging this visit.
