THE CANOPY - SYDNEY CBD

The Canopy is a relaxed place that's very popular on Friday nights. The atmosphere is friendly and the staff take the time to chat with customers - without overdoing it either.

We were amazed with the entertainment The Canopy has on Friday nights - Julian the magician. This guy is good, really good.  He did some incredible card tricks. We kept wondering "How did he do that?"

We started our meal with a couple of entrees. Prosciutto wrapped mozzarella – oven baked with extra olive oil topped with rocket and served with sourdough and we also had sizzling garlic prawns – garlic, chilli, white wine, onion and olive oil served sizzling with sourdough. Both entrees were nicely presented and both had such lovely aromas. Lovely crisp prosciutto wrapped around the mozzarella – nice. The drizzle of balsamic vinegar over the rocket – divine. Nothing over engineered here – just wonderful flavours combining really well together. The sauce with the prosciutto was so tasty and soaking this up with the sourdough was really delectable. The sizzling prawns infused with the chilli and white wine were plump and juicy with that oh so nice garlic flavour. These were so good.

Sir had a Pinot Grigio with his meal and Mlady had a Cabernet Merlot with hers and both wines accompanied the meal nicely.

For mains, surprise surprise, it was Sir who chose the crispy skinned barramundi served with garlic prawns, Mediterranean quinoa salad and lemon vinaigrette. This had lovely crispy skin and a colourful array of colours and textures.  The Mediterranean quinoa salad and lemon vinaigrette combined well with the barramundi which was cooked perfectly. Sir thoroughly enjoyed this dish. Mlady chose a pizza – Pollo – made with pesto chicken, sundried tomato and feta cheese. It was a thin crisp house made pizza base with plenty on it. Nice juicy chunks of chicken coated in pesto, with the vibrant colours of the sundried tomato and feta cheese combining well.

For dessert Sir had the molten chocolate fondant – served with crushed pistachio, mixed berry compote and vanilla ice-cream. OMG how good was this! Silky smooth delicious chocolate beneath a lightly crisped baked top – lovely. Mlady had an Affogato.  She likes to have this every so often as it is a lighter dessert to end a good meal. This Affogato was espresso, Frangelico, hazelnut gelato and biscotti. The hazelnut gelato was simply delish! Pouring both the espresso and the Frangelico over the gelato – yummo! Nice too, scooping the goodies onto the biscotti.

The Canopy has a varied menu with interesting combinations and the servings are generous. There's certainly something for anyone here and it's a lively place with a real buzz happening.

Sir and Mlady dined as guests of The Canopy. Thanks to Leonne, Luca and Stefania for looking after us on the night. Thanks also to Julian the Magician for entertaining us on the night.
