Abb Air
Shop 9.6 World Square
Goulburn St
Haymarket, Sydney
Ab Air sits on the side of World Square in a fairly quiet spot for restaurants and cafes, but despite this they still attract plenty of traffic through their doors. When they initially opened, it did take a while for people to discover this place = but once they did it has been busy ever since.
Starters are almost an essential for Thai aren't they? We often go in to a place with the noble idea that we'll just have a quick main course and go - but that rarely turns out to happen in reality. Our two starters on this occasion were the dim sims (in a serving of four) and the strangely named Flying Pis - which turned out to be stuffed chicken wings. Both were tasty but the flying pigs were the standout with a nice crisp skin over a very nice filling.
The pad si ew is another one of those staple dishes at Thai. It's a good benchmark of a place in some respects as it tells you how well they do the popular dishes. Fortunately this was a good one. The flavours were all there and as we soon learned the size of the dish was really good as well.
Chicken fried rice is a nice simple way to fill up at a Thai restaurant and is often a dish you basically can't go wrong with. This was no different here with a tasty and substantial serving arriving. And yes - there was plenty of chicken in the dish too!
If the thought of Pad Thai and soft shell crab together gets you salivating then you'll love this version. There was certainly no shortage of soft shell crab in this either! This dish is a great way to combine two loves - pad thai and soft shell crab. Be still our beating hearts!
Abb Air - it's a bit hard to find, but worth discovering. They have inside and outside seating and the restaurant is in an obscure spot. The service is fast and friendly and the food is great. It's popular, but tables move quickly so everything seems to run smoothly.
