Blu Ginger
1/142 Coxs Rd
North Ryde, Sydney
We thought that we would have Indian for a change and decided to drop in on Blu Ginger at North Ryde. Our sitting was early-ish and we noticed that it did not take long for the place to fill up. It certainly was a popular venue.
Complementary Poppadoms with a tasty Raita (mint dipping sauce) was the first serving of our meal. Who doesn't love this crunchy start to an Indian meal!
Sir is quite partial to onion Bhajia (read that as addicted to the dish) so of course we had to have some. It is chopped onion dipped in a chickpea batter and crisp fried then served with mint sauce. There was certainly plenty of it. It was nicely crisp, packed with flavour and it also had a bit of a bite to it. He wasn't disappionted and it's a favourite dish of his.
The Chicken Tikka - tender fillet marinated in yoghurt, tandoori spices and cooked in the tandoor was very good. So tender and it had a great taste. We really enjoyed this.
We also had Seafood Molly - A Kerala favourite of prawns, scallops and fish with ground coconut, onions, tomato, fresh curry leaves and mustard seeds. Again, this was packed with great flavours and it tasted so good. There was plenty of seafood in it too.
We had a serving of Basmati Saffron rice and as our dishes had such great sauces, it was so good and yummy soaking all these sauces up in the rice. Even though it does fill you up it's so hard to not do this.
Loving Naan - we chose to have the Garlic Naan. Seriously - one of the best Naan's we have had. It arrived piping hot and was fluffy and tasted so good. We ordered Naan for 2 and there was plenty of it. We could have eaten this all night - but again it was so filling.
Our last meal was Sagwala and we chose beef. This is stated on the menu as Punjabi's favourite dish made with the puree of spinach, spices and garam masala, It was a thick mix of spinach with big tender pieces of beef in it. It was another decent sized serving too.
For dessert Sir had a mango Kulfi and Mlady had a pistachio Kulfi and they really went down well after our spicy meal. Great flavours and cool and refreshing on the mouth and throat too!
We left Blu Ginger very full and very satisfied. Having eaten at both their other venues - Castle Hill and Canberra - we knew what to expect and weren't disappointed. The service was also attentive and helpful on a busy night.
