Mejico
Pitt St
Sydney CBD
Mejico is a bright, vibrant and buzzing restaurant in the heart of Sydney's CBD. With a market-to-table concept, the food is fantastically fresh, and a great take on traditional Mexican food. Margaritas are also a specialty at Mejico, with 6 types on the menu and an option to build your own. We visited on a Thursday eve and the restaurant was full of people having a great time. Always a great sign!
We started off with Tommy margaritas, Olmeca Altos Plata, fresh lime and agave. We were also delighted by the show that is guacamole at Mejico. Lauren was serving us on the night and brought the guacamole ingredients to the table. It is created fresh in front of you so you know exactly what is going in to the guacamole. Served with plantain chips, it is a delicious way to begin a meal.
Next up were the hickory & honey smoked brisket tacos. The tacos had pink pickled onions, cabbage, mustard seeds and nutty house-made salsa. Delicious, flavoursome and going down a treat, these tacos were delightful.
We also had the beetroot & goats cheese tortilla. The handmade tortilla came with wasabi and minted pea guacamole, asparagus and goats cheese. We loved all the different flavours of this dish, especially the peas which were a welcome sweetness and texture.
Our next dish was the jalapeno poppers. These were super crunchy on the outside, with gooey melted feta cheese on the inside. Served with chipotle mayo, these were the ultimate cheesy comfort food. Delish!
We also had the haloumi (one can never have enough cheese). Grilled with agave, oregano and lemon, covered in a pepita crunch, this was almost like a dessert. Sweet, sticky and perfectly cooked, this dish is a winner.
We had room to fit in one more savoury dish and it had to be the lam. The Adobo lamb rump was cooked perfectly and served with chimichurri and pink pickled onions. This dish was so full of flavour, it was a delight to eat. More, please!
Ready for another tipple, we ordered a couple more drinks. The rose margarita with rose syrup, triple sec, lime agave and chilli salt was delicious, not too sweet and not too strong. The poblano sour was chilli infused Olmeca Altos Plata, Pimms, pink grapefruit, citrus Agave and egg white. This cocktail was a fantastic mix and super delicious.
How could we pass up dessert? With churros on the menu - we had to say yes! The churros were served with chocolate dipping sauce, and were uber crispy and hot. Delicious!
We also had the margarita cheesecakes, and we can't lie. These were our favourites. Served on dehydrated lime and coconut tostadas, the citrus and tequila cheesecake was light and delicious.
Thank you so much to Lauren for her wonderful service on the night and in-depth knowledge of the menu. Thanks also to Shannon at Mejico for organising our visit.
