MONKEY KING THAI | NORTH NARRABEEN, SYDNEY

MONKEY KING T

Monkey King Thai
1493 Pittwater Rd,
North Narrabeen, Sydney

The look is inviting as you approach this contemporary Thai eatery nestled in a small group of shops in Narrabeen. The French doors at the front open up to a warm, wood-finished interior with a cosy glow from well-placed lighting.

Although only recently opened, it seems quite busy for a Sunday night. We take a seat at the window and before long we are salivating over the menu, drinks in hand.

The menu is great – with tempting photos of many of the dishes, and there are different sections for all-time favouites, curries, salads, stir-fries, noodles, signature and grilled dishes. They all look and sound so good it’s really hard to choose!

We love a good Salt & Pepper Squid, so that had the entrée sorted. This was certainly a good one! Crispy on the outside, super tender inside, served with a sweet chilli sauce shot.

The first main to arrive was as delicious as it was impressive. The King Prawn and Seafood Volcano was served in a coconut shell and set alight at the table. What a succulent assortment of prawns, mussels, scallops, squid and fish swimming in an absolutely delicious mild coconut milk curry sauce! There was surprisingly quite a lot inside that coconut. Yum!

Our next dish was superb too. The Barbecued Garlic & Pepper Lamb Cutlets with stir-fried vegetables and salad were tender and juicy, with such a great flavour! They were Dame A’s favourite of the night.

Do yourself a favour and get some coconut milk rice – we fell in love with this here and I think rice will never be the same for us again!

As lovers of duck, we finished our mains with the Roasted Duck Salad. This was done in a chilli jam, with a coconut milk dressing and sprinkled with cashews. Fresh and tasty and there was a generous amount of good duck meat involved. Yum!

Monkey King has a good selection of desserts and we opted to share a Fry Me – deep fried ice-cream, breadcrumbs and coconut flakes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. What a nice way to finish an amazing meal. Both Dames were so full we couldn’t manage all our dishes so a doggy bag was in order. No shame there – it was just too good to leave anything behind!

Monkey King Thai is open for lunch from 11am until 3pm then dinner from 5pm until 10pm. The good news is there are Monkey King’s at Lindfield and Newport also which are just as good. There are specials and good value banquet options as well as loyalty rewards. These Dames will definitely be back again!

Those dames dined as guests of Monkey King. Thanks to our lovely waitress Gee who looked after us so well, and to Manager Petch, who has it all running smoothly. Special thanks to owner Top for this invitation.
