Q Dining
Pullman Quay Grand Hotel,
61 Macquarie St.
Circular Quay, Sydney
Perched between the Botanical Gardens and our lovely harbor, this restaurant is inside the Pullman Quay Grand Hotel in Circular Quay. It’s an open, bright and airy space with lovely views and décor. The new Autumn menu is Modern Australian and includes bites, small plates, share plates, large plates and sides. There’s a fabulous looking banquet menu option for a minimum of four people which offers a bit of everything.
We start with an entrée of Scallops with Daikon Salad, Horseradish Cream and Green Apple. The scallops were cooked superbly – nicely browned underneath and snowy white on top. Not overcooked, not undercooked. The accompanying flavours were subtle and well matched to the mildness of the scallops. Delicious!
We also had the Artisan Charcuterie Board. The Board was piled with delicious air-dried Australian meats and sausages topped with pickles and a side of grain mustard. There was plenty of toasty bread to pile it on and we found it quite a generous dish.
Next we chose the Lamb Rump. It was served on a carrot puree and topped with honey-glazed heirloom carrots. It was thickly sliced and deliciously pink, plated with a tasty lamb jus and toasted sunflower seeds. This was a very satisfying and impressive dish and the meat was super tender.
We also had the Beef Filet and Braised Oxtail. This was also divine. Cooked medium rare and thickly sliced beside butter roasted mushrooms, English spinach and roasted onion, it melted in the mouth. There was a decadent buttery sauce on top of the vegetables and a lovely jus surrounding it all. Hiding beneath was a portion of braised oxtail which had a soft, juicy texture and an amazing flavour. This was such a great dish!
After polishing our plates we decided on dessert. The Dark Chocolate and Raspberry arrived picture-perfect and not only pretty, it was delicious. The dark chocolate mousse was topped with raspberry sorbet and surrounded by fresh raspberries and crunchy choc crumble. Wow, the chocolate was rich and it was all heavenly.
The Mango Sesame Crunch was equally good – tasty mango mousse topped with mango sorbet, surrounded by fresh mango and sesame crumble. In addition, there was a little sprinkle of lime jelly, which gave the dish an awesome bit of tang. We couldn’t fault these desserts.
We were full to the brim and thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Q Dining. The staff were friendly and super attentive and it was a treat to watch the world go by while we indulged in superb cuisine.
