We love the fragrant, spicy, tasty tones of Thai food and we’d heard great things about Kinn Niyom. A trip to Castle Hill was a good excuse for a visit. It’s a surprisingly big place but still gets packed out. We had a booking so waiting wasn’t an issue.
It was dinner on a Saturday night so cocktails were an obvious starting point. Mlady had a tasty raspberry cosmopolitan and Sir had a delicious pina colada. They arrived quickly and hit the spot nicely.
There was duck on the menu and Sir saw it! The Duck Pancakes came in a serving of two. The rosemary pancakes were filled with roasted duck breast, cucumber and shallots and came with a side of honey hoisin sauce. It was a tasty variation on the usual duck pancakes.
We love betel leaves. It’s kind of a healthier mini wrap. These came in a serving of two, each filled with a juicy tiger prawn, ginger, toasted coconut and mixed herbs. One word to describe them - delicious!
The crispy eggplant sticks were amazing. We loved the sweet, sticky crispy combination. This is a dish we’d gladly have again and again.
Speaking of crispy, the crab prawn rolls were just that. Seeing crab and prawn together in crispy pastry was always going to be a winner. These were great. Having net roll made them even crispier when deep fried and the plum sauce added further sweetness without overdoing it.
The small satay chicken skewers - or Petit Satay Chicken as they’re called on the menu - attracted us as well. These smaller skewers came in a serving of eight. They were all slathered in rich thick peanut satay sauce and a small side of cucumber relish. Eight of these might seem like a lot but they’re small and they’re tasty.
For a Thai restaurant, this place has quite a modern feel to it. They’ve nicely blended tradition and modern to cover the spectrum. The place has a nice feel to it. It’s easy to relax here and settle in.
We left Kinn Niyom full and satisfied. their food was innovative and tasty. They certainly lived up to their good reputation.
