Site Pizza Bar
2 - 8 Pine Ave,
Little Bay, Sydney
Situated on a bright open street corner in Little Bay, this modern Italian eatery has a choice of indoor and outdoor seating. Set amongst both historic buildings and unit blocks, it’s surprisingly quiet here, with lots of pine trees and a cool sea breeze. This is not just an average pizza bar as the name indicates. The menu offers pasta, salads, entrees and mains as well as a great choice of pizzas. Inside you will also see some impressive-looking specials chalked on the pillars. So on this glorious day, we were keen to sample a good range of dishes.
We started with the day’s special, Beef Carpaccio with Rocket, Shaved Parmesan and Olive Oil. Dame M enjoys this fresh and simple dish and this one had exceptional flavour. The beef was super tender and seasoned perfectly. We couldn’t leave a morsel of this one. Great start! A plate of steaming garlic pizza slices arrived at the table and we got to work on this wonderful, crispy and aromatic treat. It was a shame we had to control ourselves to allow space for more dishes as this was so moreish!
The second entrée was another special – a traditional Prawn Cocktail. Again, a simple dish but the prawns were fresh, juicy and nicely deveined. They didn’t need anything to accompany them but the dressing and lemon were on-the-side if you felt the need. Aranchini Balls are such an indulgence, as not many of us cook them at home. We just had to try these and they were so delicious! Crispy crumb on the outside, soft, creamy rice and smokey chorizo on the inside. The flavours were balanced expertly and we really loved this dish.
A nice glass of Pinot Grigio and a delightful Moscato were chosen from the comprehensive wine list and served in the appropriate glassware. So far, we were really enjoying the day and excited about the mains. Then a bowl of heaven came to the table - Spaghettj Gamberi and Lobster with Cherry Tomato and Aioli Sauce. It had the divine taste of the sea, enhanced with a light garlic oil. Succulent prawns and tomatoes were tossed through it and slipper tail lobster (more commonly known as bug) on the top. It really tasted as good as it looked. The lobster released easily from the shell and the whole dish was seasoned so well. Dame T was even spooning up the remaining aioli after we demolished the spaghetti. We both agreed this was a sensational dish. When at a Pizza Bar, you must have pizza, right? We chose the Capricciosa, which was impressively covered with ham, fresh mushrooms, Italian sausages, mozzarella, oregano, chilli flakes and fresh parsley. We loved that the topping went right to the edges and was a generous amount. Absolutely great pizza – one of the best Dame M has had. Good base, plenty of flavour and a nice spicy kick!
Lastly, a good Vittoria coffee hit the spot and it was presented with “bear” flair by our attentive waiter Giacomo. As a final salute to Italy, we tasted a homemade Limoncello liqueur which was tangy and delicious.
Site Pizza Bar certainly has a lot to offer. We think there will be lots of pleasantly-surprised diners who discover the great pizza and the delicious Italian cuisine options here. They are open 7 days in the evenings and weekends for lunch. We are definitely going back for more!
Those Dames, who review for Sir and Mlady Dine Out, dined as guests of Site Pizza Bar. Thanks to Glenn for this invitation and to Giacomo for looking after us so well. Special thanks to Mike and Tony from Ompty.com for arranging this visit.
