The Emporium
51 Phillip St
Parramatta, Sydney
We were fortunate to attend the launch of UNDER the PARRA SUN which commences 1st March – 26th March.
“Under the Parra Sun is a month long festival that features a unique line-up of events that focus on bringing Parramatta’s love of food, wine, art and culture to life in alfresco atmosphere”.
The Emporium is a beautiful venue with a spacious courtyard area. A magnificent staircase leads upstairs to comfy lounge chairs and to another spacious function area.
They can cater to 180 and are open 7 days a week from 7.am for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Jad the general manager provided an insight into the History of The Emporium and the menu for today with matching wines.
Chef Jerome has 25 years’ experience and was on Russia’s version of “Hell’s Kitchen”.
Upon arrival we were welcomed with very colourful looking cocktails – Velvet Boisson, Lychee Martini and Watermelon Mojito. Both loving Mojito’s we decided to try this. OMG an absolute delicious and oh so easy to drink/sip cocktail!
Our entrees consisted of -
Wagyu Beef Tartare – Pickled enoki, marinated kelp, bottarga, shiso nori crisps,
Pickled Butterfly Sardines – Shaved fennel, shallots, candied hazelnuts and chives,
Tempura Zucchini Flowers – Fresh ricotta, Parmesan and feta, pickled zucchini and tomato,
Duck Rillettes (French Classic) Sourdough crostinis and house-made pickles.
Each entrée was matched with the following wines respectively – Pinot Noir, Chablis, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz.
The entrees were fresh, vibrant and flavoursome. The black slate showcased the different appetising textures and the use of hazelnuts was interesting in that it provided a lovely nutty crunch.
Our mains were –
Garlic and Chili Yamba Prawns – Braised baby bok choy, micro red shiso,
Green Peas Risotto – Parmesan, goat curd, toasted hazelnuts, chives and dill oil,
Sweet Soy Split Pork Ribs – Baby bok choy and crispy mung bean noodles,
Duck Ragout (Signature dish) Pappardelle, Parmesan shavings, chives.
Again, the mains were paired with the following wines respectively – Riesling, Chardonnay, Tempranillo and a GSM.
Loving our greens, the use of Baby Bok Choy and the Green Peas Risotto were delicious. Sir loves Duck and thoroughly enjoyed both the Entrée Duck Rillettes and the Duck Ragout.
The Emporium is Tuscan styled Australian/Mediterranean flavoured food. The menu is varied, fresh, vibrant and very tasty.
