Ever just wanted to drop in to a place to grab just one dish on your way somewhere else? You know, just something to tide you over, fill the gaps so to speak. It's a bit indulgent and over the top perhaps but we did just this at China Chilli recently - and it achieved everything we wanted.
We were at Chatswood, on our way somewhere else but with some time to kill and an appetite. We didn't want to fill up, but we needed a top up. China Chilli was there and after looking at the menu we went in. It was busy with a waiting list, but we got a seat straight away as there were only two of us and the front window bench seating was fine.
After being seated our "menu" was brought to us - an iPad. The iPad ordering took a little while to get used to as each place using this method does it a bit differently. Our waitress helped us though. While this was unfolding a pot of tea arrived and a small tub of pickled vegetables as well. Nibbles and a cuppa while perusing the extensive menu - a nice touch!
Our dish, to keep our engines running, was braised prawns in XO sauce in vermicelli noodles. The "glass like" noodles glistened through the XO sauce coating them, and the prawns were tender and plentiful. This turned out to be a tasty dish and a good choice.
China Chilli was certainly busy and popular when we were there. Tables were never left empty. The iPad ordering took a little while to get used to as each place using this method does it a bit differently. Our waitress helped us though.
There are some pretty expensive options on the menu - but some more affordable ones too. For us, service was fast and efficient, the food was tasty and a decent sized serving and prices were reasonable. China Chilli did what we wanted it to do.
