Absolute Thai
Hornsby Inn
31 Hunter St
Hornsby, Sydney
The “Absolute” empire has been around for quite a while now. In the middle of Hornsby they were originally on the outside of Westfield but a number of years ago they moved across the road and inside the Hornsby Inn. It’s a big space that fits well, spreading from an inside area to a lovely al fresco balcony space. In warmer weather it’s hugely popular to grab a spot outside.
Unusually for Thai, we started with a serving of steamed dim sims. They arrived beautifully presented, topped with bright orange roe and served with plenty of salad as well. It was surprisingly big for a starter and very tasty. The soy dipping sauce was a nice companion too.
Satay chicken skewers are a staple on Thai menu’s. Some people always have them while others avoid them. We’re somewhere in between - we have them intermittently these days. We used to have them all the time. These ones were lovely. The chicken was tender and fragrant and there was plenty of thick tangy satay sauce to spoon on them.
As Absolute Thai is in a pub, you get your drinks from the bar there. It’s a long list available too, including cocktails. Mlady chose her “go to” these days - a cosmopolitan. It was a big one too and tasty. Sir had a cider. The drinks were delivered to the table too by the friendly bar staff.
The prawn donut caught our eye on the menu. It’s not something that’s widely available and we’re always on the lookout for different goodies. It’s a combination of prawn, chicken and egg yolk coated in breadcrumbs, flour and white pepper and deep fried till crispy and golden. It’s certainly worth having too!
Thai fish cakes are another Thai regular and something we again have intermittently. These ones were really good with a nice spicy aftertaste. We also tried their moneybag and their spring roll. Both were crisp and tasty.
Absolute Thai’s home at Hornby Inn fits well. You get the best of both worlds here with great food and a place to grab drinks before, during and after your meal.
Absolute Thai has a very diverse menu with dishes from mild to spicy and options to cater to almost every taste. They do it well here and it’s somewhere worth visiting.
