Macleay Street Bistro
73A Macleay St
Potts Point, Sydney
This French and very Parisienne fine dining restaurant, with outside seating, was very busy for a Thursday night. Inside, the mirrors open up this lovely quaint venue giving it space and even further enhancing the feel.
We started with a cocktail each - a French Martini. These were incredibly delicious. They were fruity and refreshing. These really were lovely cocktails that were very easy to drink - and they disappeared quickly as a result!
Complimentary soft crispy bread with very tasty Pepe Saya butter (one of our favourites) started our delicious gastronomic journey.
The wine we started with was a lovely Pinot Noir from Joseph Faiveley in the Bourgogne region of France. It was light as expected but with a full flavour on the palate.
Our meal was the degustation which gave us an opportunity to taste a cross section of the various foods on offer here.
First Course - Pan Seared Scallops. These were delicately cooked. They were plump, juicy and so tender and having them served on a black plate showcased these tasty treats perfectly.
Second Course - the Macleay St Bistro Organic Grass Fed Eye Fillet with the house made mini Baguette. This was a lovely tasting dish. Mix everything together, add some cracked pepper if you wish and scoop onto the toasted baguette slices. This was such a great taste sensation - and there was plenty of it!
Third Course - Twice Baked French Onion Soufflé with Truffle Butter and Wholemeal Sourdough Roll. Seriously - this was amazing. Being "onion" you may think it could be overpowering and leave a strong onion taste in your mouth - not so at all. This really was a lovely tasting and subtle dish. it was delicate in flavour and we used the wholemeal sourdough roll to dip into this yummy fare.
Fourth Course - Organic Grass Fed Eye Fillet. This was beautifully cooked - medium rare. When cutting, the knife went through the tender meat so easily. The eye fillet had an amazing taste. The pepper sauce - wow - it had a nice kick to it. Great flavours. Great dish!
Fifth Course - Classic Macleay St Bistro Creme Brulee. This had a nice toffee crust with an Oh yeah - so smooth centre. Such a great vanilla flavour. Such a classic!.
Sir finished with a lovely dessert wine - La Caussade - which he enjoyed very much. It could be a new addition to the menu too and it certainly complemented the meal perfectly.
