Barrel Bar and Dining
3/362 Military Rd
Cremorne, Sydney
Retail therapy does give us all an appetite doesn’t it? Well it does with us. We were out and about in the Neutral Bay and Cremorne area and spotted Barrel Bar and Dining at just the right time - lunch time! It was fate.
The place itself is very tastefully decked out. The vast front room window looks out onto the bustle of Military Road yet peacefully shields you from it too. There’s a nice feel here with timber tables, lots of wine bottles in racks around the place and several well placed raised tables built from wine barrels. We eagerly grabbed one of these and ordered a couple of glasses of red.
We started our meal with a lovely plate of cured hiramasa kingfish. It was artistically presented with cucumber, macadamia, apple and grape dressing. The delicate flavours and mixed textures worked beautifully.
Next was a mound of tasty chicken liver parfait coated in a layer of fruity juniper berry jelly and topped with radish splinters. This went nicely on top of the toasted sourdough slivers that were also served with this dish.
On to main courses, and with a top up of our wines, and Mlady immediately steered towards the burger. The curiously named Ol’ dirty burger 2.0 sounded instantly interesting. Inside a soft brioche bun there was a thick juicy meat pattie topped with beetroot, cheese and lettuce. A side of crisp golden fries was a perfect accompaniment.
The pizzetta grabbed the attention of Sir on the other hand. It was a simple ingredient driven version with prosciutto, mozzarella and basil. This was a perfect lunchtime meal but would be equally good as a shared plate too.
Barrel Bar and Dining is a great spot for a drink, a drink and snack or a full meal. It very capably deals with everyone in relaxed tasteful setting. This is somewhere to keep going back to!
