Mrs. Jones Bar at The Orient Hotel
1 Kendall Lane
The Rocks, Sydney
The Orient (EST 1844) is a Sydney institution and they have now launched Mrs Jones. To access Mrs Jones you enter via Kendall Lane. This beautiful venue is situated upstairs where you'll find a spacious terrace with comfy lounges and high stools and tables. Inside, again, is a spacious dining area with comfy lounges and tables and chairs. It's a bar and a restaurant all in one.
When we arrived for one of their launch events the wine, beer and cocktails were flowing so we indulged in nice drop of red. Actually this was a really nice drop - so we had a few glasses each.
On the terrace a spectacular champagne glass display tower stood. Moet was poured from magnums into the top glass and it then flowed working down and into the glasses below. This stunning show made for some great pictures and videos.
After a while, whilst sitting on the terrace with our wine and relaxing on a comfy lounge in the early afternoon sun, it was time to eat. Everyone was gently ushered into the dining room and we all took our seats.
Entree's were-
Bruschetta - Mixed baby tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, basil and balsamic served on sour dough. This was so fresh and vibrant.
Warm grilled kangaroo salad (med-rare) - tomatoes, beetroot, parsley, hazelnuts and Persian feta. These were fresh, colourful and had good flavours which all combined well.
Mains were -
Crispy pork belly - roast beetroots, fried potato, apple sauce and roasting juices. Sir loves pork belly so he jumped at this and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was tender juicy meat with a lovely crispy skin that all disappeared very quickly with the pork belly becoming part of another belly - his!
Mlady had the pan fried Barramundi - kipfler potatoes, broad beans, herb salad, parsley and lemon butter. Mlady - no surprises just had to have this. The fish was cooked just right. Not at all dry, it was lovely, sweet and moist and the skin was nicely crisp - lovely!
For sides we had rocket and Parmesan salad which was a tasty vibrant salad and there was also a side of seasoned chips - which proved to be very popular for very good reasons. These really were nice.
Dessert was dark chocolate brownie with double cream, which - no surprises - Mlady eagerly had. It was a really good chocolate too that was gooey and oh so nice. It had a crisp top that you cracked and combining this with the chocolate and honeycomb made for a delicious dessert.
The other dessert, which Sir had, was the single cheese plate. We both love cheese but Mlady let Sir have this. It consisted of South Cape brie (from Tasmania), quince paste and crispy lavosh. There was also a bunch of muscatel grapes which went so well with this course.
Sir and Mlady dined as guests of Mrs. Jones at The Orient Hotel. Special thanks to Catherine Slogrove from Papaya PR for this invitation.
