Mrs Sippy is a chic bar in the heart of Sydney's Double Bay. The name might sound American but don't let that fool you into thinking its an American or Western type bar. Think modern and stylish with Italian vibes. We are arrived on a busy Friday night and we were quite surprised to see so many people out and about. It seems Double Bay has experienced a bit of a resurgence since the controversial lockout laws have come into place, and the venues here are benefiting!
We started our evening with the house version of what we would call a Bellini. A lovely glass of Prosecco mixed with Pear Juice, a refreshing take on a classic cocktail and one we really enjoyed.
A lot of people regard Mrs Sippy more as a bar than a restaurant but we can tell you these guys do food just as well as they do drinks, with options to cater for a la carte dining, share plates or even pizzas fresh out of the wood fired oven. We started with a succulent Moreton Bay Bug slider. Nestled in a fluffy brioche bed, this bug was succulent and full of flavour, one we easily devoured in minutes.
We continued with another starter dish, a tantalising tuna crostini, one of Count J's favourite dishes and done so well here at Mrs Sipppy. It had a perfect mix of ingredients, with flavours such as sesame, capers and coriander, each adding a level of freshness and crunch, as we took each bite.
Our main dish was a classic roast chicken served with baby leeks, celeriac and tarragon. Such a classic dish but one that can be easily ruined by overlooking it. Not here though. The meat was really tender and the unique mix of sweet aniseed and vanilla that the tarragon added was extraordinary.
Our chicken was accompanied by a beautiful salad, uniquely prepared with puréed golden beetroot, purple beetroot, sorghum, chard and celeriac mash.
We enjoyed our food with some lovely wine from the Simon Gilbert winery in Mudgee. Mrs Sippy has an extensive wine with lots of options both local and imported.
We ended our lovely evening with some mouthwatering dessert, a delicious meringue, freshly made on premises. Smothered with fresh berries, this glossy confection had a silky texture that literally melted in our mouths.
Mr Sippy is creating some delicious vibes in Sydney's East so no matter where you like to hang out, we highly recommend you visit them in Double Bay very soon. You won't be disappointed.
The Counts, who review for Sir and Mlady Dine Out, visited as guests of Mrs Sippy. Special thanks to Zomato for arranging this evening.
