Quanjude

Quanjude is a newish addition to the thriving food district that is World Square Sydney. This particular space has seen a variety of uses over the years, with Quanjude continuing the more recent theme of quality Chinese food, and especially Beijing Roast Duck (or Peking Duck as we call it in Australia). However, the bar area here is also a busy place in its own right
When in a duck place - we have duck! It's an easy choice. Although we eyed off the half duck, we weren't after a huge meal so we ended up having a six pack of the duck pancakes. They are Sir's favourite part anyway. Six nicely steamed pancakes arrived with a platter of sliced duck meat, thin cucumber spears and of course the necessary thick tangy hoi sin sauce.
From the cold appetisers section of the menu we ordered the steamed chicken in spicy sauce. We normally go for hot chicken dishes but this one turned out to be a tasty one, with plenty of tender in a sauce that had a bit of a hit without being overpowering.
Sir had spied the pan fried spare ribs with plum sauce as soon as we started perusing the menu and was very keen to have them. They arrived piled high on their plate, hot and tasty. These are a picking kind of dish as you need to nibble the tasty ,eat away from the bones. It may be a bit fiddly to some but we certainly thought it was worth it . The meat was extremely tender and had great flavours. It was a decent sized starter dish too.
We couldn't resist having some of their crunchy vegetarian spring rolls. To be honest they weren't part of our original plans but they caught our eyes in the menu and the rest, as they say, was history. We were glad we did orfder them though, because they tasted as good as they looked!
We decided to steer away from alcohol on this occasion - yes strangely! Instead we chose the jasmine tea. It went really well and the fact that it kept getting topped up regularly was certainly nice too.
We left Quanjude satisfied and full. The food had great flavours, the service was very attentive and the place has a nice feel to it. We sat in one of the booths and the privacy here was nice after a busy week. After this experience, we'll certainly go back some day to do the full duck treatment.
