SOCIETY DI CATANIA | POTTS POINT, SYDNEY

Society Di Catania
186-188 Victoria St
Potts Point, Sydney

Society Di Catania is now open in Potts Point. It’s located in Victoria street where the famous Jimmy Liks used to be. It’s such an iconic location with so much history, so naturally, any new resident has huge shoes to fill.

Society Di Catania definitely lives ups to its predecessors. The space oozes ambience and atmosphere. It’s tastefully decorated with long wooden tables on one side (perfect for large groups and special occasions) and more intimate bar style dining on the other (perfect spot for a special date). A grande woodfired pizza oven is at the back where the chefs create their mouth-watering pizzas.

We started our evening with an Aperol Spritz, which is a great way to start any Italian dining experience. Our drink struck the perfect balance of Aperol and Prosecco –a sure sign the person behind the bar knows what they are doing.

After our drink, we were ready for some pizza but with so many on offer, we weren’t quite sure where to start. Lucky for us, Society Di Catania offers a pizza degustation menu on Monday evenings, so all we had to do was get our appetite ready, sit back and enjoy the food.  Before long, we had a steady stream of pizzas being brought to our table.

We started with the Pistacchio Pizza which was loaded with sausage, Bufala cheese and you guessed it, Pistachios, which gave the pizza a green tinge that was quite unusual. The pizza was delicious and It was something we had never tried before.

Next up we tried the Quattro Formaggi, which was oozing with Fior Di Latte, Gorgonzola, Provolone and Grana Padano. If you like cheese, then this is definitely the pizza for you, though you might need to master how you eat each piece with so much cheese melting out of every slice.

We also enjoyed a lovely Potato pizza (by this time, we couldn’t keep up with all the food that was being served). The pizza actually surprised us with how delicious it was. The thin slices of potato mixed with luscious Fior Di Latte and rosemary were a creamy match made in heaven.

All these pizzas were on a white base, made with superfine flour, hand stretched and cooked in a 400 degree oven which creates Society Di Catania’s signature crust. Of course, if you prefer red base pizzas instead, Society Di Catania definitely has you covered.

In fact, They have 14 red base pizzas on the menu, each with unique combinations of toppings to satisfy any pizza preference. After so much food though, we couldn’t fit much more in, so we tried the only one, the Don Marco. This pizza featured an amazing fusion of flavours featuring Smoked leg ham, ricotta and shaved Grana Padano. The pizza was big and satisfying! They definitely don’t skimp on the toppings here.

Last but not least we tried to fit in dessert, a lovely fluffy duo of Churros with chocolate sauce which was the perfect end to such a beautiful dining experience.

Society Di Catania ticked all the boxes for us. We loved the relaxed atmosphere, amazing food and good service. If you haven’t visited them yet, we highly recommend you do. It won’t be long till we’re back.
