THE CHEESE AND WINE CO - NEUTRAL BAY, SYDNEY

The Cheese and Wine Co
1 Grosvenor Lane
Neutral Bay, Sydney

This is a hidden gem and what strikes you as you walk in is how cosy and quaint the venue is. Seat yourself in a comfy lounge or high stool with table and enjoy the experience. The Cheese and Wine Co delivers very tasty share based food teamed with a lovely wine selection. It’s a nice place to hang out and chill by yourself or with friends to share the moment. It has only been open since March 2018. The steady stream of people arriving is testament to how good the food and service is here.

To drink we started with their house Pinot Noir from the Yarra Valley. This really was a good drop. Sometimes when drinking wine you can get a bit of an ‘aftertaste’ – well, this did not happen. It tasted the same from when you took your first sip to when you finished your glass – as it should. Lovely!

Their tasty Bruschetta was one of our starters. Not much goes into making one of these – but when you do it right – it tastes so good - and this was sooo good. Plenty of tomato, garnished with that oh so good fresh basil with a drizzling of balsamic – so flavoursome. It was served on slate which showcased its vibrant colours and freshness. It’s also worth mentioning that sliders are soon to come on the menu which will be good too.

Halloumi chips were next. Deep fried Halloumi served with green homemade mayonnaise. Seriously these were good. They had a lovely outside crispness with a soft cheesy centre that was not rubbery – it was just right. Dipping them into the housemade mayo – so nice. We thoroughly enjoyed these. It was comfort food at its best.

Another wine we had was a very good Shiraz from the Barossa Valley. The wines went so well with our meal. Sean our host recommended these – he knows his wines! If you’re in doubt just ask for a suggestion.

Our main, so to speak, was the Antipasto board. What a mouth-watering selection this was! And the aroma was oh so good too!

There was a great assortment of cured meats and it also had three cheeses – Manchego, Danish Blue and Camebert. This was such a good cross section. It also had dried fruits and nuts, cooked olives and seasonal fruit. To go with this we had bread and crackers similar to lavosh or crisp Lebanese bread segments.

There was plenty on this board and we were hard pressed to know what to eat first! This really was delicious. Sipping your wine, indulging in crackers, cheese, cured meats, olives – oh so good. We both thoroughly loved this.

Arancini is a favourite for both of us - and yes - we had to try it. The Arancini was – mushroom, Prosciutto San Danielle, Bocconcini and Grana Padano. How tasty was this!!! Lovely and crisp with plenty going on inside and outside.

Dessert – we did fit in. We had the Grand Gateau – delicious lava cake, strawberries, a whole Magnum ice cream and melted chocolate.

This was a chocoholics dream. Such a shame Mlady had to share it with Sir! This looked good and tasted better. Divine with a capital “D” and the cut strawberries were so sweet – YUMMO - and great support for the industry too - well done team!

The food at The Cheese & Wine Co is delicious and fresh. They have a great menu and a lovely wine list. It is all beautifully presented and you won’t leave hungry. They are closed on Mondays but are open every other day.

Sir and Mlady dined as guests of The Cheese and Wine Co. Big thanks to Sean for looking after us on the night. Thanks also to Thais.
