Chatswood is so stuffed with eateries, especially at the Interchange, so you have to wonder why a little place like Toastie Smith commonly has lunch-time queues out the door. We are here to find out! This Korean-inspired fast food style outlet is a slick operation and orders are processed quickly by friendly staff who are happy to answer any questions.
The menu board describes the options clearly, with plenty of pics. The concept is simple – a brioche-style sandwich stuffed with mostly scrambled egg, cheese and a chosen topping. Customers are given an order number and the wait for the food is not long at all. There is no table seating but we suspect most of the customers are local office workers getting takeaway.
Dame J chooses the Bacon My Heart – sesame slaw topped with eggs, bacon, cheese, spicy tomato relish and smoky BBQ sauce. It looked great served in a little box with the generous filling. She did enjoy the slight sweetness of the toast and the fluffiness of the eggs.
Dame M opted for the Wagyu Beef Don which was also fat and fluffy, with the slaw topped by eggs, cheese and simmered beef and onions with a truffle mayo and sprinkle of seaweed. That was tasty and satisfying.
The coffee was great, which is always important and the drinks menu had some interesting and tempting options such as this Pink Smoothie: a delicious combo of strawberry, pear, pineapple and chia seeds. Yum!
As we ate our toasties, a constant stream of people flowed through the doors quite efficiently, which is so important during a work day lunch break.
Toastie Smith is open from 9am to 5.50pm weekdays and until 4pm Saturday and Sundays and is located on the lower level of the interchange at Chatswood Station. Those dames dined as guests of Toastie Smith. Special thanks to Claire and April from CPM Online Marketing for arranging this visit.
