King Tide Cafe
9 Dangar Rd
Brooklyn, Sydney
A cafe on a Marina jetty looking out over moored boats and the water is a winner straight away. It’s an idyllic location here and they serve a variety of food but also the all important seafood by the water.
We were visiting with a group and the fisherman’s basket turned out to be the go to order. It was a good selection of fried ocean goodies which included three calamari rings, two fish cocktails, two prawn cutlets, a crab claw all on a stack of fries. It was a good sized serving and it was all cooked nicely too. The batter wasn’t overpowering and the seafood was juicy inside. They do good fries here too and they all disappeared.
If you just want calamari and chips that’s not a problem either. It comes in two serving sizes. Small is six calamari rings and chips while large is twelve calamari rings and chips. The calamari was nice and tender too!
There is, of course, the ever present fish waterside dish of fish and chips too. It comes with a really big battered fish fillet and sits on a pile of chips. Again, the fish was nicely cooked and very juicy.
If you want something grilled rather than battered and fried then you’re covered too. The grilled fish comes in several varieties you can choose. This was kingfish but there were three choices available when we visited.
This isn’t a fancy place and certainly isn’t fine dining. The wooden bench tables are on the covered deck area and the plates and cutlery are all disposable. It all works here though and fits in nicely. There’s a bottle shop two doors down and it’s such a great location to relax, eat and enjoy the water views and vibe.
We really enjoyed our visit here. It’s casual and no frills but the food was good and the views are too. It’s a nice spot for a leisurely meal.
